About the Department:

The Special Programs Department at Islamic Relief Canada (IRC) drives impactful and innovative initiatives to address diverse global needs through strategic project management and international collaboration. Our team oversees the Inspire Volunteer Abroad Program offering unique opportunities for Canadian volunteers to gain hands-on experience in humanitarian development and the Gifts in Kind Program which is dedicated to sending in-kind donations, primarily medical equipment, supplies, and pharmaceuticals, to developing countries to build health infrastructure's capacities and address emergency needs. By joining our department, you'll contribute to meaningful projects that make a real difference in communities around the world, while supporting volunteers in their journey to create lasting change.

Job Purpose:

The Marketing Intern (Inspire) supports the development and execution of marketing materials, social content, and storytelling assets that highlight the Inspire Volunteer Abroad Program. This role assists in creating engaging content, capturing volunteer experiences, preparing presentations, and supporting logistics and administrative tasks related to Inspire trips and events. The intern will work closely with both the Inspire and Marketing teams to strengthen outreach, engagement, and program visibility.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Design social media posts and visual content for Inspire platforms.
  • Assist with content planning, drafting captions, and scheduling posts.
  • Review and refine video scripts; support basic storyboarding.
  • Collect and write Inspire volunteer and alumni stories for marketing use.
  • Help prepare presentations, reports, and marketing decks.
  • Support admin and logistics tasks for Inspire trips (pre- and post-trip).
  • Manage swag inventory and assist with packing/organizing materials.
  • Assist with event preparation and marketing materials for Inspire activities.
  • Conduct light research on trends, storytelling ideas, and youth engagement.
  • Collaborate with Inspire and Marketing teams for ongoing projects.

Qualifications & Competencies

Experience:

  • Experience in content creation, social media support, marketing, communications, or related areas.
  • Experience using design tools such as Canva, CapCut, or Adobe Creative Suite is an asset.
  • Experience supporting events, logistics, or program coordination is beneficial but not required.

Knowledge, Skills and Attributes:

  • Basic understanding of social media platforms (Instagram, TikTok, Facebook) and digital trends.
  • Ability to design simple visual assets and assist in content scheduling.
  • Interest in international development, youth engagement, or volunteer programs.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to communicate professionally.

Other:

As this is a Canada Summer Jobs position, all applicants must meet eligibility guidelines as specified by Service Canada in order to be considered for the above position:

  • Be between 15 and 30 years of age at the beginning of the employment period.
  • Be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person to whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act for the duration of the employment.
  • Have a valid Social Insurance Number at the start of employment and be legally entitled to work in Canada in accordance with relevant provincial or territorial legislation and regulations.

Hybrid Work Policy:

IRC has a hybrid model where in-office requirements are based on distance from our Burlington headquarters or a regional office (Surrey, Edmonton, Calgary and Ottawa). Depending on where you live, this can range from two days a week to one day a month.

Starting Salary:

$36,400.00
