The Faculty of Information and Media Studies (FIMS) at Western University is dedicated to the advancement of knowledge about media, communications, and information. Responsibilities

The Project Coordinator (The Homosaurus Collective) role is part of the Project Coordinator/Manager non-union job class.

The Homosaurus Collective (https://homosaurus.org/) is a linked data vocabulary for queer terminology used in Galleries, Libraries, Archives, Museums, and Special Collections (GLAMS) is seeking a bilingual or Francophone PhD student (preferred) from Quebec experiences in Quebecois 2SLGBTQIA+ (Queer) community organizations and vocabulary.

The Project Coordinator (The Homosaurus Collective) will be responsible for the following:

  1. Assist in the recruitment of community consultant participants from Quebec-based organizations including the planning of up to six community feedback sessions over the course of the year.

  2. Assist in the integration and implementation of the Homosaurus at the Archives gaies du Quebec.

  3. Document and present work undertaken from June 2027 to March 2027 at an end-of-project summit.

The Project Coordinator will be responsible for supporting and overseeing all aspects of one or more projects. The incumbent will coordinate and provide ongoing leadership of the project, and manage all project phases by setting deadlines, assigning responsibilities, and monitoring and summarizing progress and results. The incumbent will engage various stakeholders, ensure project support and sponsorship, and provide leadership and direction to the project team.

Qualifications

Education:

  • Undergraduate Degree; MLIS and Masters in Translations or related fields preferred; PhD Student in Queer or Translation Studies or related field preferred

Experience:

  • 2 years' work experience in a related field; Experience with French-language LGBT2QIA+/Queer Communities and Vocabulary; Familiarity with Quebecois Terminology and Dialect; Excellent French speaking/writing skills (the conversation with the group will be in French, translation will be from English to French)

Preferred Experience:

  • Experience with collaborative projects; Good English speaking/writing skills

Skills, Abilities & Expertise:

  • Familiarity with best practices in building a strong collaborative team and leading people
  • Familiarity with techniques for planning, managing and coordinating multiple projects, with competing priorities that involve a variety of stakeholders
  • Project management skills to ensure team roles are clear, milestones are communicated and deadlines are met
  • Familiarity with best practices for change management
  • Communication skills to clearly and effectively interact with all levels of the organization
  • Intermediate computer skills in Microsoft Office Suite
  • A well-defined sense of diplomacy, including solid negotiation and conflict resolution skills
  • Results-oriented with the ability to motivate and coach employees to meet high performance standards
  • Ability to interact professionally with students, staff, faculty, and other members of the University community
  • Strong client focus with a desire to achieve results
