The Line Cook prepares a variety of food items for customers to food safety standards and recipe specifications while ensuring high quality products. This role will support the delivery of food services including on-campus catering activities.
Specific Duties
- Prepares short-order items.
- Performs preparation work for daily menu items, specials/features, and catering activities/events as planned by the Supervisor.
- Supports the Cook in preparation of catering and grab and go items (baked goods, sandwiches, wraps, and other items) based on levels set by the Supervisor.
- Ensures that the food preparation area, kitchen, and appliances are organized, cleaned, and sanitized.
- Assists with receiving, validating, and put away of deliveries of food items and supplies.
- Reports any damage, quantity, and quality issues with shipments to the Supervisor.
- Adheres to standardized recipes and specifications, and portion control guidelines while also maintaining consistency and ensuring high quality products.
- Maintains inventory levels and records of food, equipment, and supplies, and informs the Supervisor of any needs.
- Informs Supervisor when maintenance/repair is needed on any equipment.
- Informs Supervisor of customer suggestions or concerns.
- Responds professionally to customer inquiries and concerns, as required.
- You will be part of a team actively engaged in contributing to and accomplishing the vision, mission, and goals of the College and in supporting the aspirations and needs of our learners.
- You will promote a positive work atmosphere by interacting and communicating in a professional manner that demonstrates mutual respect with students and colleagues.
- Other related duties as assigned by Director, Food Services Supervisor or designate.
Skills & Qualifications

High school completion or equivalent

Food Safe Level 1 certificate required.

2 years or more experience as a prep or line cook

Ability to work independently and as a member of a team – working harmoniously with others.

Strong knowledge of proper food handling procedures.

Organizational skills to work quickly and efficiently, preparing several orders simultaneously.

Excellent interpersonal/communication skills to provide a high level of customer service.

Able to meet the physical demands of the position, including standing for extended periods of time, lifting up to 20 lbs.

Must be able to work independently with minimum of supervision.
