THE VANCOUVER SCHOOL BOARD WELCOMES APPLICANTS FOR THE POSITION OF: ADULT EDUCATION INSTRUCTIONAL ASSISTANT - ENGLISH/HUMANITIES Hours: 12:30 pm - 6 pm Monday-Thursday

Location: Gathering Place Learning Centre

Contract Dates: Sept-Nov 2025 (+ potential extensions)

Salary : $26.67/hour +2% +Benefits

ADULT EDUCATION: Adult Education provides youth/adult students with educational opportunities from Foundations-level courses to secondary school completion. We offer a variety of learning formats which include: structured Foundations courses (basic literacy through Grade 10 equivalency); structured academic Grade 10, 11 and 12 as well as personalized, self-paced courses at the Foundations and Grade 10, 11 and 12 levels. Courses at the Foundations level develop core skills which prepare students to enter the Grade 10, 11 and 12 courses needed to obtain either the regular or the adult Dogwood Diploma. All courses follow prescribed Ministry of Education curriculum.

POSITION DETAILS: Under the direction of an instructor, Instructional Assistants work with teachers to support student learning in a wide variety of subjects. Some knowledge of Foundations Math/Science is a definite asset.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Undergraduate degree in English/Humanities
  • Successful experience in tutoring youth and adult students on an individual or small-group basis
  • Ability to tutor students in academic English/Humanities courses at the Grade 11/12 levels
  • Experience with Moodle is an asset
  • A combination of education and experience providing support to students and staff using technology in self-paced and structured courses
  • Excellent English communication skills, both oral and written
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment
