Litigation - Support - Paralegal, eDiscovery & Litigation Support

Position:
Paralegal (eDiscovery Case Manager), eDiscovery & Litigation Support
Purpose of the role:
In collaboration with a 9-person team, this position assists with all aspects of eDiscovery and Litigation Support case management, providing high-quality paralegal and technical support on complex litigation matters. The role is suited to a paralegal who is comfortable operating at the intersection of legal processes, technology, and data, and who can support increasingly sophisticated eDiscovery workflows.

Managers, eDiscovery & Litigation Support
Core Paralegal & Litigation Support Responsibilities:
- Provide paralegal support on litigation files, including case project management, file organization, and lawyer communications;
- Support lawyers with document searching, retrieval, reporting, and evidentiary analysis;
- Conduct document review, including relevance, privilege, and redactions;
- Prepare documents for production, including coding, consistency checks, QC, reporting, and production exports;
- Create and maintain chronologies, issue codes, undertaking trackers, exhibit lists, and hearing binders (including in electronic format);
- Manage transcripts, including issue coding, electronic linking, and assistance with transcript summaries;
- Assist with trial preparation and witness preparation; and,
- Respond to urgent and time-sensitive requests, including after-hours support where required.
eDiscovery & Technical Responsibilities:
- Create, update, and maintain litigation databases, including data loads and QC;
- Stage, process, extract, image, and validate ESI using SQL-backed eDiscovery platforms;
- Use advanced eDiscovery Analytics and AI to increase efficiency and optimize review and analysis workflows;
- Implement and support AI-assisted Review, Continuous Active Learning, clustering, email threading, and concept searching as appropriate;
- Assist with defensible document collection, including coordinating custodian data and liaising with internal and external stakeholders;
- Liaise with external vendors on hosted eDiscovery matters, including workflow setup, data exchanges, and issue resolution; and,
- Assist in preparing budgets, matter plans, and technical recommendations related to eDiscovery scope and approach.
Education & Qualifications:
- High school diploma required;
- Legal assistant or paralegal diploma, an undergraduate degree, or relevant experience required;
- CEDS certification and familiarity with coding (e.g., SQL, Python) and LLMs are considered an asset;
- Experience with Relativity preferred; and,
- Previous law firm or eDiscovery vendor experience required.
Required Skills & Personality Traits for Success:
- Functional/Technical Expertise: Strong foundation in litigation support and eDiscovery services, with the ability to apply technology to improve efficiency and quality;
- Industry Knowledge: Working understanding of the EDRM, monitors trends and participates in training to maintain a current knowledge base;
- Analytical Thinking: Comfortable working with large data sets, analytics tools, and structured workflows; Resourceful in finding ways to make improvements by challenging pre-existing conceptions and offering alternatives;
- Initiative & Judgment: Exercises sound judgment, takes ownership of tasks, and escalates issues appropriately; Comfortable working in a fast-paced, evolving technical and litigation environment while still maintaining a healthy work/life balance; and,
- Communication: Able to explain technical concepts clearly to lawyers and non-technical stakeholders; Works effectively with lawyers, analysts, vendors, and other firm professionals.
