Position: Lifeguard – Daytime
Reports to: Coordinator, Facility
Job Type: On-call/part-time contract through the end of summer, with potential extension based on performance.
Hours: Variable shifts including mornings, weekdays, evenings, weekends.
Location: Variety Village, Scarborough, ON
Rate: Starting at $18.75 per hour

Job Summary:
The Lifeguard is responsible for ensuring the safety of all members and guests in the pool and surrounding areas by enforcing pool regulations, monitoring swimmers, and responding to emergencies promptly and professionally. This role requires vigilance in assessing potential hazards, providing assistance to individuals with special needs, and maintaining a clean and organized aquatic environment. The Lifeguard role is also responsible for monitoring members to ensure Variety policies and protocols are being followed.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Ensuring the safety of all members and guests using the pool and immediate pool area.
- Enforcing and educating members on pool regulations and policies in accordance with the Ontario Health and Safety Regulations for Pools & Spas.
- Responsible for performing their duties with professionalism, ensuring safety, and adhering to protocols in all situations, including emergencies.
- Providing customer service to members, answers to inquiries and general questions.
- Ensuring accessibility by assisting members with special needs with equipment use.
- Conducting regular checks to ensure emergency safety equipment is in working order.
- Completing pool tests and secondary guard duties as required.
- Maintaining the pool, deck and equipment clean and free from equipment and debris.
- Attending mandatory In-Service training each session.
- Handling other duties as assigned.
Qualifications and Key Competencies:
- 15 years of age or older.
- Valid certification in National Lifeguard – Pool, and Standard First Aid with CPR-C and AED.
- Morning and midday availability an asset.
- Knowledge of pool polices and regulations an asset.
- Experience in working with people with disabilities an asset.
- Ability to work flexible hours on a seasonal schedule.
- Strong problem solving and communication skills.
- Effective working with minimal supervision.
