Position Overview

The Pre ‑ Commissioning Technician will support system readiness activities for a project in the Fort Saskatchewan area. This role requires strong organizational skills, clear communication, and the ability to guide field staff while working in a fast ‑ paced environment with shifting priorities. The successful candidate will assist in the execution of pre ‑ commissioning tasks, loop checks, and control ‑ room ‑ based testing to ensure systems are prepared for commissioning and start ‑ up.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform pre ‑ commissioning tasks, including installation verification, device energization, loop checks, and functional testing.
  • Execute loop checks and testing procedures from the control room using narratives and established workflows.
  • Lead and direct field technicians to ensure efficient and safe execution of daily work.
  • Maintain effective radio communication to coordinate field activities and troubleshoot issues in real time.
  • Record and track technical data accurately from multiple sources.
  • Adapt work plans quickly to accommodate changes in scope or shifting priorities.
  • Support field walkdowns, punch list resolution, and system readiness tracking.
  • Prepare and update documentation, logs, and progress reports using Microsoft Office tools.
  • Collaborate with commissioning, automation, and construction teams to align priorities and ensure smooth execution.

Qualifications

Required

  • 5-10 years pre-commissioning and commissioning execution.
  • Experience leading and coordinating field staff.
  • Strong communication skills, including proficient radio communication.
  • Ability to work in a fast ‑ paced environment with a high degree of organization.
  • High attention to detail when recording and tracking activity data.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook, OneNote). Experience executing loop checks and working from a control room.

Preferred

  • Electrical or Instrumentation Technologist diploma.
  • Experience working with automation contractors or in a control station environment.
  • Knowledge of Siemens DCS and SIS hardware. Background in field commissioning and functional testing.
