Position Overview
The Senior Accountant has full ownership of the full cycle accounting process, including the accurate and timely production of financial statements on a monthly, quarterly, and annual basis for multiple operating companies and holding companies. Is responsible for the oversight of payroll and the payroll department. Working closely with the Corporate Controller on providing accurate, reliable, and timely reports and KPIs for reporting to management.
Salary: $85,000 - $95,000
Shifts: Full-time, Permanent
Location: Canmore or Calgary, AB
Key Responsibilities:
Accounting and Financial Management
- Ensure accurate and timely processing of A/R, A/R, payroll and GL entries
- Oversee full-cycle accounting for multiple operating companies and holding companies, ensuring all financial transactions are accurately recorded and reconciled.
- Prepare, analyze, and present timely monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements for each entity, as well as consolidated group reports.
- Monitor and reconcile bank accounts, credit cards, investment accounts, and loan balances for all entities.
- Manage intercompany transactions, allocations, and eliminations to ensure accuracy and avoid duplication.
- Support the budgeting and forecasting process by providing historical data analysis and variance explanations.
- Prepare ad-hoc financial reports for Corporate Controller as required.
- Review monthly payables and make payments for multiple companies
- Assist with cash flow forecasting and other duties as assigned.
Team Lead
- Lead the Payroll department
- Supervise payroll processing, ensuring compliance with statutory requirements and internal deadlines.
- Review payroll reports for accuracy, including benefits, deductions, and government remittances.
- Support accounts payable function for the operating companies, ensuring timely and accurate processing of vendor invoices, expense claims, and payment runs
- Provide mentorship, training, and support to direct reports
- Review professional development with the accounting team annually
Compliance & Controls, Process Improvement
- Ensure strong compliance with accounting standards and maintain effective internal controls.
- Ensure timely filing of all payroll-related remittances, GST/HST returns, and other reports.
- Maintain compliance with accounting standards, internal policies, and legal requirements across all entities.
- Prepare for and coordinate annual audits, including assembling audit documentation and liaising with external auditors.
- Maintain and update corporate records, registrations, and government filings for all companies
- Liaise with external auditors and other professionals
- Identify and implement improvements in accounting processes, systems, and controls to increase efficiency and accuracy.
Position Requirements
- A bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
- CPA designation (completed or in progress) preferred but not required.
- 5+ years of progressive accounting experience, with at least 2–3 years in a senior or supervisory role.
- Strong knowledge of GAAP/IFRS and regulatory compliance.
- Experience in Quickbooks Online an asset.
- Advanced proficiency in Excel (pivot tables, VLOOKUP, complex formulas).
