About the role

Structural Designer (Hybrid) Job Summary Working with the Principals, Engineers and Designers to create new designs, problem solve and technical tasks. You will develop skills in a variety of responsibilities including calculations, completeness of data and using prescribed analysis, design or computation methods.

Our Structural Department works on a variety of projects including high rise, commercial, data centers, and public buildings. You will also be exposed to areas of Building Science.

In This Role, You Will

  • Provides structural design and technical support for structures including structural steel, reinforced concrete, precast concrete and timber
  • Uses initiative and judgment to resolve problems, interprets engineering specifications, investigates design and field engineering difficulties and co-ordinates work schedules
  • Prepares progress reports
  • Conduct site investigations and evaluations of existing building and structures
  • Provide technical support, participate in investigations, report write ups, design development and site review phases of a variety of structural projects.
  • Prepare construction Working Drawings, Specifications and Terms of Reference
  • Uses initiative and judgment to resolve problems, obtain and analyze data, design or modify equipment components
  • Solves problems by applying standards and following detailed instructions
  • Makes decisions within established guidelines, procedures and practices
  • Conduct condition survey assessments through the testing and evaluation of building envelope systems
  • Preparing reports, repair details and specifications for residential, commercial and industrial buildings
  • Collaborate with Salas O’Brien engineering offices across Canada

Skills/abilities

  • University Degree in Civil Engineering with a specialization in Structural Engineering ideal
  • P.Eng., or eligibility for registration in BC
  • 4 - 5 years design experience in steel, concrete and wood
  • Knowledge of building and design codes is required
  • Working knowledge of BCBC and various city bylaws
  • Proficient in SAP2000, SAFE and ETABS and a various design analysis software an asset
  • Understanding of Building Science an asset
  • Proven ability in preparing reports, specifications, and drawing packages
  • Excellent communication, organizational and time management skills
  • Valid driver’s license and access to a reliable vehicle

Location : Vancouver, BC (Hybrid, 3 to 4 days in the office)

Travel : Limited travel is required locally (10%)

Compensation: $75,000 to $95,000 CAD depending on experience
