About the role

What we do and are proud of

At Brentwood Bay Resort, we believe unforgettable guest experiences start with an exceptional team. Our oceanfront setting, award-winning dining, and relaxing spa set the stage, but it’s our people who make the real difference.

We’re proud to have been recognized multiple times as Outstanding Workplace of the Year, thanks to a team that values creativity, excellence, and genuine hospitality. Here, you’ll find a workplace where you can refine your skills, grow your career, and be part of a supportive group that takes pride in what we do—while still having fun along the way.

Why this role matters

As Sous Chef of the Pub, you will support the Chef de Cuisine in leading the kitchen team and ensuring seamless day-to-day operations. You’ll play a key role in menu innovation, mentoring cooks and apprentices, managing costs, and fostering an atmosphere where both staff and guests feel supported and inspired.

What you'll do

  • Lead the line during busy services, ensuring pace, consistency, and quality
  • Supervise, mentor, and train cooks and apprentices, building a strong kitchen team
  • Provide creative input into menu development, seasonal specials, and event promotions
  • Uphold food safety, sanitation, and WorkSafeBC standards
  • Track food costs, portioning, and waste to support profitability targets
  • Collaborate with FOH leadership to ensure smooth service flow and strong guest experiences
  • Support planning and execution of private dining, events, and Pub buyouts
  • Step into leadership responsibility when the Chef de Cuisine is away

What you'll bring

  • Minimum 3 years of culinary experience in a high-volume kitchen
  • At least 1 year of leadership or supervisory experience
  • Red Seal certification or equivalent training considered an asset
  • Knowledge of food safety, sanitation, and compliance standards
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to thrive in high-volume service
  • Financial awareness, including cost control and waste management
  • A collaborative leadership style with the ability to coach and inspire others
  • Reliable transportation to Brentwood Bay, as public transit options are limited for evening and closing shifts
  • Open availability with flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and holidays

What's in it for you

  • This role offers a competitive salary of $55,000–$65,000 annually, based on experience and internal equity, with typical starting salaries ranging from $55,000–$60,000.
  • Extended health and dental benefits after three months of employment
  • Kitchen meal included with each shift
  • Be part of an award-winning workplace, recognized as Outstanding Workplace of the Year
  • Career development opportunities and leadership growth in a supportive team
  • Perks including a discounted staff menu at 50% off while on shift, complimentary hotel stays, discounts for friends and family, 50% off spa treatments, savings on spa retail products, and free paddle sports rentals
