For more than a decade, we have been adapting and growing, building a robust portfolio of facilities in both Canada and the United States. Since 2012, our renewable generation capacity has grown more than five-fold – from 22 MW to 128 MW today. Leveraging this foundation of success, we are now executing a strategic imperative to play a pivotal role in North America's energy transition. Our efforts are centered on a significant expansion of our generation portfolio, harnessing our expertise to develop and deploy the advanced solar and battery energy storage (BESS) solutions critical for a modern, sustainable grid.
JOB SUMMARY
Portage Power is seeking a highly motivated and commercially-astute analyst to join our growing team and drive our North American expansion. As an Finance Officer, Renewable Energy Portfolio Development, you will be a key commercial and financial driver of our growth strategy. You will contribute to the economic analysis and commercial structuring for new generation projects, from prospecting and origination through to commercial operation.
This role is perfect for an entrepreneurial individual with a background in investment banking or project development who thrives in a fast-paced, deal-focused environment. You are a critical thinker and an adept problem-solver who is comfortable navigating ambiguity and taking ownership of complex financial and commercial challenges. You will play a pivotal role in shaping the investment decisions that underpin our growth and contributing directly to our mission of building a sustainable energy future.
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES
- Develop, maintain, and manage complex project finance models (DCF, LCOE) to evaluate the economic viability of greenfield development projects, repowerings, and acquisitions.
- Conduct financial due diligence, risk analysis, and valuation activities for new investment opportunities in solar, BESS, and other renewable technologies.
- Support the structuring and negotiation of key commercial agreements, including Power Purchase Agreements (PPAs), term sheets, EPC contracts, and financing documents.
- Conduct market research and analysis to identify and prospect for new project opportunities and support market entry strategies across North America.
- Prepare accurate and timely investment memorandums, presentations, and financial reports and present them for senior management and the investment committee.
- Manage relationships and negotiations with a wide range of external stakeholders, including financial partners, legal counsel, landowners, and government authorities.
- Collaborate with internal engineering, legal, and operations teams to ensure projects are successfully advanced through all stages of the development cycle.
- Perform other related duties as required.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
- Bachelor's degree in Finance, Business, Economics, or a related discipline .
- Minimum 3 years’ progressive experience in investment banking (ideally within a Power, Utilities, or Infrastructure group), project finance, or a corporate development role at a renewable energy developer.
- Expert-level proficiency in financial modelling, with demonstrated experience building and managing complex project finance models in Excel.
- A deep understanding of valuation methodologies (DCF, precedent transactions, comparable companies) and capital structure for energy projects.
- Proven experience supporting or leading the structuring and negotiation of key project contracts.
- Strong knowledge of North American power markets, including regulatory structures, market dynamics, and revenue streams for renewable assets.
- Strong computer skills; proficient in the use of office productivity and collaboration tools, preferably Microsoft Office and Google Workspace.
- English essential, both oral and written; Bilingual (English/French) considered an asset.
