Job Description

MLSE LaunchPad is a 42,000 sq. ft. Sport For Development facility where youth facing barriers use sport to recognize and reach their potential. Supported by MLSE’s professional sports teams- the Toronto Maple Leafs, Toronto Raptors, Toronto Argonauts and Toronto FC, it is the first facility of its kind in North America. About the position:

Along with leading an energetic, dynamic and experienced Sport Programming team that creates opportunities for over 4000 youth, you are responsible for overall facility operations and stewarding a n organizational culture that puts our “youth first, always” , by providing the best experience for our participants and community partners.

As Senior Sport & Operations Lead, you will strategically guide the design, implementation and management of programming delivered at MLSE LaunchPad and ensure our facility continues to be a living lab for developing best-in-class youth Sport For Development programming and sport equity practices. You will work cross-functionally with MLSE’s community leadership team to ensure MLSE LaunchPad’s pedagogy is present in both in - facility and external community sport programming by inform ing coach training and ensuring integration with existing program s and future growth initiatives.

If you have experience leading large staff teams, managing youth programming, partnerships and collaborations, and are excited by the opportunity to work alongside MLSE’s team brands to deepen impact and imagine innovative, new approaches for community sport programming, then we think you’ll enjoy the Senior Sport & Operations Lead role .

What you’ll be doing:

Contribute as a core member of the MLSE LaunchPad and Community L eadership Team

  • Lead fiscal business planning for portfolio that contributes to the overall organizational business plan.

  • Develop, monitor and administer all aspects of MLSE LaunchPad staffing, policies and program logistics that serve both corporate and charitable priorities.

  • Report to MLSE LaunchPad Board of Directors on a quarterly basis.

  • Ensure the organizational commitment to E quity, D iversity & Inclusion is reflected in all programs.

  • Recruit, train, coach and lead a diverse team of full-time and hourly sport programming staff.

  • Represent the organization as a presenter at local and national conferences.

  • Represent MLSE LaunchPad in strategic discussions on growth readiness and ability to scale.

Lead the D ay-to- D ay operations of MLSE LaunchPad’s facility.

  • Through cross-functional leadership shape operational and facility efficiencies to prioritize LaunchPad’s role as a hub for collaboration, a leader in research and knowledge mobilization, and an innovator in using sport for positive change are maintained .

  • Oversee the operational needs of MLSE LaunchPad including internal communications, staff scheduling , incident management and health and safety.

  • Work cross - functionally with the LaunchPad operations team to execute a standard of excellence in member services and facility management cleanliness through the creation and execution of processes that adhere to policies and regulations.

  • Track trends and changing community needs to ensure appropriate client services for MLSE LaunchPad members and guests.

  • Ensure a safe, enjoyable and respectful culture for all members, staff and visitors of MLSE LaunchPad .

Develop and implement exciting, impactful and relevant programming strategies at MLSE LaunchPad .

  • Maximize facility i mpact and usage to create deep, positive outcomes using sport for youth facing barriers.

  • Design S port F or Development curricula for MLSE LaunchPad that achieve s specific youth development outcomes based on global best practices.

  • Work closely with the Research and Evaluation team to ensure programs are measured and refined to achieve key outcomes and results.

  • Engage MLSE LaunchPad program partners to best understand their needs, assets and priority areas for capacity building , and to oversee the co-creation of impactful and strategic programs and events.

  • Lead the development of MLSE LaunchPad’s Train the Trainer program to support with growth and scaling.

  • Leverage our space as a hub for collaboration, progressive research and knowledge mobilization on creating positive change in youth sport.

  • Identify key areas of opportunity for growth and scale, informed by community need and program readiness.

  • Lead the strategy behind the creat ion of Create strong inter-sectoral partnerships (health, education, government, community, recreation and sport) to ensure best practice program development and implementation.

  • Remain up-to-date on new research and best practices that will enhance the quality and standards of program implementation and respond to changing community needs.

You have strong experience leading a portfolio of programming : You lead by example and are confident turning thinking into actionable program strategy. You enjoy supporting, managing and coaching staff in engaging young people, and adapting programming to better meet youth needs. Your work aligns with all relevant policy and legislation including but not limited to workplace standards and policies, the Occupational Health and Safety Act, and the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act.

You are a creative thinker : You bring forward exciting ideas for new and impactful programming. You can imagine the multiple ways participants engage with a program and use data and research to support your thinking.

You are collaborative : You work well in a highly collaborative environment. You are ready to lead and to pitch in. You’re excited to collaborate with partners and participants on projects both big and small.

You are well-organized : You create efficient systems that enable you to work quickly, solve problems proactively, and produce exceptional quality work. You’re comfortable managing significant program budgets in excess of $ 1 Million and ensuring alignment with forecasts and expectations. You’re confident using tools like Microsoft office to support your productivity and are comfortable adapting to changing priorities as needed.

You are community-minded : You have good understanding of the communities we serve and aspire to create equitable opportunities for participation. You have familiarity with applying anti-oppressive and anti-racist principles to your work and engage in continued learning in these areas.

Y ou believe in the power of sport : You’re an advocate for the importance of physical literacy and sport engagement in the lives of youth. You’re familiar with our core four sports of basketball, hockey, soccer and/or football, and can imagine and communicates ways in which these activities positively impact young people.

You are a clear, confident and thoughtful communicator : You have strong verbal and written communication skills. You coach staff towards success, and are comfortable working across partners, participants and community members of varying ages, cultural backgrounds and lived experiences. You engage both internal and external stakeholders in ways that invite their insights and report on work in ways that support transparency and accountability.

Extra things that can support your application:

  • You have experience in leading a portfolio of programming in our core sports of basketball, hockey, soccer and/or football.

  • You completed an advanced post-secondary degree ( Master’s or above) in Physical Education, Kinesiology, Sport & Recreation Management, Community Engagement or another related field.

  • You have a National Coaching Certification Program (NCCP) certification.

  • You have a strong understanding of multi-sport and physical literacy best practices, the L ong- T erm A thlete D evelopment M odel, the Canadian sport sector, and City of Toronto Sport plan.

  • You speak a second language.

  • You are able to work some evenings, weekends and/or holidays based on programming.
