The role:Please note this is a20-month Term

The Senior Data Governance & Information Architect is a lead role that drives and enables consistent, well‑understood, and trusted data across the organization by operationalizing enterprise data governance practices and supporting data stewardship adoption. The position translates enterprise governance policies, standards, and metadata into practical tools, guidance, and workflows that business users and data stewards can apply in day‑to‑day work, improving data quality, consistency, and trust. They role model strong stakeholder engagement, change management, and stewardship enablement, the role drives adoption of governance practices that support self‑service analytics, regulatory compliance, and responsible data and AI use.

Responsibilities:

Stewardship Enablement & Data Governance Operationalization:

  • Operationalize enterprise data governance policies, standards, and playbooks into usable, role‑specific guidance for data stewards and business stakeholders.
  • Maintain and improve governance workflows (definition, issue escalation, stewardship responsibilities, approvals) so governance becomes a practical operating model rather than a theoretical framework.
  • Provide ongoing consultation to stewards to resolve definitional and usage questions, reinforce accountabilities, and improve adoption.

Enterprise Taxonomy, Classification & Business Glossary Management:

  • Design, maintain, and govern enterprise taxonomies, classification schemes, and business glossaries that provide a shared, business‑centric understanding of data across domains.
  • Partner with data stewards, analysts, and business stakeholders to define common data meanings, classifications, and naming standards, ensuring alignment between business concepts and underlying technical metadata.
  • Support the organization and continuous improvement of the enterprise data catalogue so users can easily discover, interpret, and trust data for analytics, reporting, and operational use. Participate in definition, design, and review of data architecture.

Information Architecture & Knowledge Frameworks for Data Governance:

  • Contribute to the design and governance of enterprise information architectures that support data governance, including information domains, conceptual data groupings, metadata standards, and relationships between key business concepts.
  • Participate in the definition, design, and review of data architecture.
  • Prepare detailed flow charts and diagrams outlining data and information systems.
  • Help establish organizational knowledge frameworks that connect data assets, definitions, policies, quality expectations, and usage guidance into a coherent, navigable structure.
  • Ensure information architecture artifacts support self‑service analytics, regulatory compliance, and responsible data and AI use by making data meaning, context, and limitations transparent and accessible.

Learning, Enablement & Data Literacy Support:

  • Develop and curate data and AI governance‑related learning assets, job aids, and communication materials that build organizational capability in data stewardship, data quality, and responsible data use.
  • Translate complex governance, metadata, and information management concepts into clear, audience‑appropriate guidance for users with varying data literacy levels.
  • Support data literacy and culture initiatives by contributing governance content to training programs, steward onboarding, and reference libraries, and by assessing the effectiveness of enablement materials through usage and feedback.
  • Stay up to date with data and AI developments to identify organization knowledge gaps and develop roadmaps for upskilling.

Governance Adoption, Change Management & Data Risk Support:

  • Drive adoption of data governance and information management practices through structured change management, stakeholder engagement, and governance‑by‑design approaches.
  • Embed governance expectations into business processes and workflows so data quality, classification, and appropriate use are achieved as natural outcomes rather than after‑the‑fact controls.
  • Assist data stewards and governance leads in identifying, documenting, and escalating data risks related to definition, quality, usage, and compliance, supporting remediation and continuous improvement.

Qualifications & Experience:

  • 5+ years of experience in Data governance, data management, analytics enablement, AI or analytics governance, information management, data compliance/risk, or related roles.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Information Management, Data Science, Computer Science, Business Administration, Library Sciences, or related field; Preferred: Master’s degree in Information Sciences, Library Sciences, or similar field.
  • Certifications in Data Management/Data Governance (e.g., CDMP, DGSP), and/or change management (e.g., ADKAR, CCMP, OCM), and/or Business analysis & process enablement (e.g., CBAP, BPM) are all assets for this role.

Technical Skills:

  • Expert understanding of data governance concepts and best practices.
  • Experience in Information or knowledge management
  • Proficiency with Data literacy, data culture, or capability building initiatives
  • Proficiency in a markdown language or similar
  • Familiarity with MS Purview is an asset

Communication:

  • Ability to translate complex governance/metadata concepts into business relevant guidance for diverse audiences
  • Engaging in honest and transparent dialogue to develop mutual understanding, trust and cultivate deeper relationships.

Collaboration and Partner Orientation:

  • Strong facilitation and stakeholder management
  • Proven ability to work collaboratively in a team environment and manage multiple priorities.
  • Initiates opportunities for collaboration and maintains productive relationships to achieve shared goals.
  • Doing the right thing by always acting with openness, honesty and respect.

This role represents an existing vacancy. Internal candidates are being considered as part of our standard process.

Salary Range: CAD $79,100 – $118,700 annually

Compensation for this role is based on a combination of skills, experience, and internal equity. Candidates with stronger alignment to the role’s requirements may be placed higher within the range. Your recruiter will share more information about our total rewards package during the hiring process.

Office Location: Toronto Corporate Office with the ability to travel to our St. Catharines office. This is a hybrid work opportunity.

Meridian has a remote work policy that allows flexibility for employees to work remotely but also requires a minimum of one day per week in the office for purposeful meetings to collaborate, innovate and build effective relationships with your team, your colleagues and your leader which is important to us.
