About the role

**Privacy Advisor (6 month contract)

Location: Vancouver, BC / Hybrid

Staffing Placement Opportunity** The IT Privacy Consultant (Level 1) defines, designs, and delivers Privacy Impact Assessments (PIAs) for technology projects while ensuring compliance with applicable privacy standards, guidelines, and legislation.

Experience And Role Accountabilities

  • Minimum three (3) years of IT privacy work experience or equivalent.
  • Define, design, and deliver Privacy Impact Assessments (PIAs) for technology projects and initiatives by pre-reviewing, auditing, packaging, and submitting PIA packages.
  • Collaborate with project technical teams by producing business process, technical, or operational documentation to address gaps in PIA submissions.
  • Create valid consent and/or disclaimer language by consulting with legal counsel for new technology implementations to ensure privacy requirements are met.

Education and Skills

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Technology, Business, Economics, or a related discipline.
  • Privacy or technical designations such as Certified Information Privacy Professional (CIPP) or Certified Information System Security Professional (CISSP) are considered assets.
  • Excellent knowledge of privacy legislation, requirements, and impacts.
  • Advanced MS Office skills (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Project).
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills for a professional environment.

Work Assignment Requirements

  • Typical qualifications may include IT Security, Law, Public Administration, Records and Information Management, or Information Science.
  • This is a security-sensitive role.
  • Hybrid position with some required in-office days.
  • Responsible for reviewing, controlling, and preparing Privacy Impact Assessments.
  • Must have thorough knowledge and understanding of the British Columbia Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act (FOIPPA), its regulations, ministerial orders, and relevant guidance issued by the Office of the Information and Privacy Commissioner.
  • Strong communication and writing skills with the ability to balance client service and compliance requirements.
  • Provide advice and guidance on privacy obligations and handle diverse, complex queries.
  • Review, control, and manage privacy incidents.
  • Participate in internal review committees to ensure systems and initiatives meet privacy obligations.
  • Contribute to departmental meetings and support minor administrative tasks such as scheduling meetings and tracking metrics.
