The Role
Based in Ottawa, the Traffic Coordinator, reports directly to the COO and is an integral part of the day-to-day operation of the channel, contributing to CPAC’s regulatory compliance and working on strategic programming files. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented and confident making decisions in a dynamic environment.
Primary Responsibilities
- Prepare and maintain daily broadcast logs, ensuring programming and promos meet contractual and regulatory requirements.
- Assign program elements (titles, categories, languages, formats, metadata) into scheduling software and maintain accurate program records.
- Oversee the workflows for simultaneous interpretation and closed captioning and work with external vendors to ensure regulatory compliance.
- Schedule and reconcile logs daily, resolving playback or scheduling issues as they arise.
- Coordinate with Programming, Promotions, and Master Control to ensure accurate placement and delivery of content.
- Monitor and report on compliance requirements (CRTC categories, Canadian content, closed captioning, interpretation, original hours).
- Communicate program schedules and changes. Highlight internally and to third-party listings services (IPG/EPG/TV guides).
- Track and report on broadcast statistics, including weekly Numeris data and internal compliance metrics.
- Troubleshoot technical or scheduling issues affecting on-air playback.
- Support other operational and programming needs as required.
Skills & Qualifications
- Diploma/degree in broadcasting, television/radio production, or equivalent experience.
- Minimum 3+ years’ experience in traffic, programming, or broadcast operations.
- Strong knowledge of CRTC logging and broadcast compliance standards.
- Proficiency with traffic/scheduling software and media asset management tools (e.g., BroadView, Dalet).
- Working knowledge of the MS Office Suite, including Outlook, SharePoint and Teams.
- Adept with Excel including basic VBA macros, advanced formulas, conditional formatting
- Exceptional attention to detail, organization, and problem-solving skills.
- Demonstrates sound judgment in complex, ambiguous environments.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet strict deadlines in a dynamic environment.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills in order to work effectively with internal teams and external partners.
- Bilingualism (English/French) considered a strong asset.
This is a full time, regular position with competitive benefits. The successful candidate will be required to work primarily in the Ottawa office.
