Primary Function
The Load Planner is responsible for maximizing truckload shipments between company warehouses and customers. The incumbent will enter, schedule, and track loads to ensure proper load delivery.
Responsibilities
- Work with internal customers, including order entry, production, shipping, and receiving, to ensure loads are scheduled to make specific arrival dates to customers.
- Utilize tools including SAP/Maxload to build customer shipments and determine the most cost-effective method of planning including any customer-based tools with special requirements.
- Monitor tools to identify past due orders and expedite planning process.
- Work with carriers to ensure timely planning, pick-up and delivery of all outbound loads.
- Mentor and train other load planners on proper procedure and protocol as well as back up to each other.
- Track outbound shipments as requested/required.
- Daily reporting to manufacturing groups to advise each item that is needed to complete loads to assist with our COT performance.
- Plan/track/expedite intercompany stock transfers needed to complete customer orders to prevent order shortages including back up for Purchasing.
- Understanding the RGA process and arrange transportation for all customer returns in Fergus Truck Centre radius.
- Analyze outbound freight to determine where cost savings can occur and present findings including Direct Ship options.
- Proactively identify transportation savings opportunities including the use of our freight policy, demurrage and CP Day of Week.
- Help develop and maintain process and procedural manuals.
- Cube orders to maximize truckload capabilities to reduce freight expenses and to meet customers’ expectations.
- Compile daily/monthly reports of cubing activity or other related items, as needed.
- Serve as the point of contact for expediting customer shipments.
- Assure proper communications between all company departments, carriers, and customers.
- Facilitate complete and on-time analysis and management.
- Plan and expedite intercompany transfers as needed to complete customer orders and cover shortages.
- Assign Fergus Truck Centre activities such as driver schedules, driver trip sheets, and truck maintenance and equipment knowledge.
- Understanding Safety, Emergency and C-TPAT procedures.
- Maintain the Chep Pallet program buy reviewing and reconciliation of invoices and inventory levels including delivery arrangements.
- Managing the specialized product process from Renton made units.
- Serve as the point of contact for managing and prioritizing the orders in our build to order/tankless production cell.
- Perform other duties as needed or as directed.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in business, preferred
- Strong computer skills, especially MS Office and internet browsers
- Experience in SAP, Max Load, and other transportation/distribution management systems, preferred
- Strong communication skills
- Ability to multi-task and work under time/date driven deadlines
- Strong customer orientation, sense of urgency, and problem-solving skills
- Good understanding of kanban/inventory management
- Basic MRP/MPS knowledge
- Good use of geographic/routes/map skills
- Understanding lead times, EDI and the EMP/URG delivery process.
Education
Associate Degree in Business Management or Related Field
