Position Overview We are seeking an experienced Building Electrical Designer to join our team in the Greater Toronto Area. The ideal candidate will have a minimum of five (5) years of experience in electrical design for commercial, residential, institutional, or industrial buildings, along with demonstrated experience participating in client meetings, coordination sessions, and project presentations . This role requires strong technical design skills, familiarity with Ontario Building Code and electrical standards, and the ability to work collaboratively with internal teams and external stakeholders.
Key Responsibilities

Develop electrical designs, drawings, and specifications for building systems, including:
-
Power distribution
-
Lighting and lighting controls
-
Fire alarm and life-safety systems
-
Emergency/backup power systems
-
Communications and low-voltage systems (as applicable)
-
Prepare technical documentation using AutoCAD, Revit, and other design tools.
-
Conduct load calculations, short-circuit analysis, and equipment sizing.
-
Coordinate with mechanical, structural, architectural, and other design disciplines.
-
Participate in client meetings, design presentations, and project coordination discussions.
-
Review and interpret building codes, standards, and client requirements to ensure compliance.
-
Provide support during construction, including responding to RFIs, reviewing shop drawings, and conducting site visits as required.

Ensure design quality, accuracy, and adherence to project timelines.
-
Collaborate with project managers and senior engineers to deliver projects efficiently.
Qualifications
-
Minimum 5 years of experience in building electrical design.
-
Diploma or degree in Electrical Engineering or Electrical Engineering Technology.

Experience working in the GTA and familiarity with local building requirements and utility standards (e.g., Toronto Hydro).

Proficiency in AutoCAD; Revit/BIM experience strongly preferred.

Knowledge of relevant codes and standards, including:
-
Ontario Electrical Safety Code (OESC)
-
Ontario Building Code (OBC)
-
CSA, IEEE, IES standards
-
Experience attending or supporting client and stakeholder meetings.
-
Strong communication skills—both written and verbal.
-
Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines.
-
EIT, CET, or P.Eng. designation (or eligibility) considered an asset.
