

Parent Support Worker - La Ronge

The Parent Support Worker will assist the Maternal Child Health Program by improving health outcomes for pregnant women and families with infants and young children, by focusing on culture, role-modeling and healthy teachings by linking community resources. About the facility: LLRIBHS promotes health in our communities for the wellbeing of all members. We provide accessible, high quality health services and programs. Together with others, we work to build capacity and educate as we address both acute needs and the determinants of health. About the position: Working 7.5 - hour shifts (Overtime may be required). S/he will provide in-home support such as basic infant care, infant stimulation, fostering healthy child development, self-care and coping as a parent, offering hands-on approach to learning and supportive mentoring as a peer. Advocate, refer and act as a liaison for families. Work closely with Health Care Professionals and working with the Public Health Nursing & Health Team to provide and deliver programs and services.
Duties: In-home support, utilizing a strength-based model with families who have children between the ages of 0-6 years; Teach individuals and group about health promotion topics; Assist the Community Health Nurse to provide and deliver programs and services; Advocate, refer and act as a liaison for families; Work closely with other Health Care Professionals; planning and delivering workshops, community education events; Developing of appropriate awareness materials; administering the nutrition coupon program; Qualifications: Early Childhood Education Certificate (Combination of Education and experience may be considered); Growing Great Kids (GGK) Curriculum training is an asset or willing to obtain; Certified First Aide & CPR and Safe Food Handling Certificate required or willing to obtain; Personal experience as a parent or caregiver of infants &/or young children, is an asset; Strong verbal and written communication skills; Able to work independently, be self-directed and demonstrate organizational skills; The ability to speak/understand Cree a definite asset; Experience working with First Nations Communities is an asset; Must possess a valid Class 5 Driver’s License;

The five communities we serve work together to promote and enhance healthy lifestyles for all band members, while ensuring continuous quality improvement and sustainable health services.
The LLRIB Health provides services:
Prevention and recovery Community Health Services Home Care Services Dental Health Group Health Long Term Care Community Development Administration Water Quality Control Health Education Medical Transportation Prenatal/ Maternal Health Immunizations Mental Health and Youth Wellness etc.
The Health Department provides health services to approximately 4017 members.. The service centers include health clinics in Kitsaki with 2412 members, Sucker River with 387 members, Grandmother’s Bay with 363 members, Hall Lake with 512 members and Little Red with 343 members.
Each of the outlying health centers are staffed at a minimum of five dedicated staff to provide direct service delivery from the community in the areas of: Home Care, Community Health, Prevention & Recovery, Dental, Health Center clerk and traveling staff from the community of Kitsaki.
Mission Statement The mission of the Lac La Ronge Indian Band Health Services Department is to provide quality, equitable and accessible programs and support by ensuring the wholistic well being of each member of it’s communities.
By working on community change to address underlying causes of poor health and by ,strengthening our programs to become more effective, we will take action of our top priority health challenges of addictions, violence, parenting, and chronic diseases and work to maintain good health, and better balance our efforts at all levels of prevention.
Our Board consists of elected community members on two year terms. Each community, has one member, with the exception of Kitsaki which has two members. Their terms comes up for re-election May 2011.
