As a Senior Data Management Strategist, you will lead data analysis, performance measurement and reporting for Emergency Management and Community Safety (EMCS). You will contribute to business unit and Council-led initiatives and will be responsible for collecting, cleansing, analyzing, interpreting and presenting data to inform decision making in areas such as internal resource optimization and the provision of public safety services to Calgarians. Primary duties include:
- Manage the Business Intelligence (BI) environment including infrastructure, databases, System Applications and Products in Data Processing (SAP) universes and Power BI workspaces.
- Lead the development and testing of data marts, data models, dashboards and reports to aid in decision making.
- Work with Information Technology (IT) and business unit Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) to develop data-related requirements and design solutions to meet their needs.
- Maintain and prioritize the backlog of Data Management development tasks.
- Liaise with vendors and internal/external agencies to ensure our Data Management needs are addressed.
- Design and implement performance metrics that measure operational performance against strategic goals.
- Monitor performance metrics and report on significant trends; work with leadership to develop actions to address performance issues.
- Plan, execute, monitor and provide quality control for all projects related to Data Management.
- Provide data-related advisory services for project initiatives; act as the primary resource for projects that impact data reporting sets.
- Develop and support a Data Strategy for EMCS.
- Evaluate the impact of business process changes, conduct analysis and present results.
Qualifications
- A degree in Computer Science, Mathematics, Statistics or a related field and at least 5 years of experience in areas such as data analysis and modeling for reporting.
- Experience must include at least 3 years of work as an analyst developing reports in SAP Business Objects or with Power BI using DAX and Power Query.
- The following will be considered preferred assets:
- An understanding of municipal governance and emergency communication with knowledge of a variety of long-range planning activities such as business planning, strategic planning and policy development will be beneficial.
- You have strong communication, research, organizational, planning and problem solving skills.
Pre-employment Requirements
- Applicants will be required to complete a written assessment.
- An enhanced security clearance will be conducted.
- Successful applicants must provide proof of qualifications.
Workstyle: This position may be eligible to work from home for at least part of the time as one of several flexible work options available to City employees. These arrangements depend on the operational requirements of the role, employee suitability, and are subject to change based on operational needs and corporate direction.
