Manager of Technology Services

Position Overview

The High Prairie School Division is seeking a dynamic and experienced Manager of Technology Services to join our team. Guided by HPSD's vision, mission, and core values, this position will serve as the technology leader, overseeing comprehensive technology services that enhance student learning and organizational effectiveness. The Manager of Technology Services reports directly to the Superintendent and will assume primary responsibility for technology operations.

Key Responsibilities:

Technology Infrastructure & Operations

  • Lead day-to-day technology operations, including network administration, server management, and cloud services
  • Oversee the maintenance and evergreening of networks and data servers, including secure backup systems
  • Manage technical support for VoIP and intercom systems across school locations
  • Coordinate installation and maintenance of video surveillance systems
  • Oversee printer and multifunctional device fleet operations
  • Maintain paperless meeting software and collaboration tools

Cybersecurity & Data Protection

  • Implement and monitor cybersecurity protocols and best practices
  • Ensure compliance with data protection standards and PASI requirements
  • Maintain secure network environments and access controls
  • Lead incident response and security monitoring activities

Educational Technology Support

  • Lead technical support for educational technology tools and learning management systems
  • Implement technology solutions that support diverse learner needs, including adaptive and assistive technologies
  • Oversee digital citizenship initiatives and online safety programs
  • Direct technology integration projects in collaboration with educational staff

Project Management & Vendor Relations

  • Lead technology projects and implementations
  • Evaluate and recommend new equipment, software, and technology solutions
  • Manage vendor relationships and service agreement oversight
  • Direct technology planning and participate in budget development processes

Team Leadership & Professional Development

  • Provide leadership to Technology Services staff and coordinate with school administrators
  • Deliver training and technical support to staff and students
  • Maintain current knowledge of emerging technologies and industry best practices
  • Lead professional development activities related to educational technology

Required Qualifications

Education & Certification

  • Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Network Administration, or related field; OR
  • College diploma/certificate in Information Technology, Network Administration, Cybersecurity, or related technical field with relevant experience
  • Industry certifications in cybersecurity, networking, cloud technologies, or server administration preferred
  • Relevant professional certifications (e.g., CompTIA Security+, Cisco, Microsoft, AWS) considered an asset

Technical Expertise

  • Strong background in cybersecurity principles and implementation
  • Extensive knowledge of networking technologies, protocols, and infrastructure
  • Experience with cloud platforms and services (Microsoft 365, Google Workspace, AWS, Azure)
  • Proficiency in server administration (Windows Server, Linux)
  • Understanding of educational technology environments and learning management systems
  • Knowledge of database management and student information systems

Experience

  • Minimum 4-7 years of experience in technology management or system administration
  • Experience in educational or public sector technology environments preferred
  • Demonstrated experience in leadership, project management, and team coordination
  • Background in technical support and customer service
  • Experience managing technology budgets and vendor relationships an asset

About High Prairie School Division

Primary and Secondary Education

High Prairie School Division, located in north-central Alberta, provides comprehensive educational programs and services to approximately 3200 students, kindergarten through to Grade 12. Its educational enterprise is carried out in 13 schools located in the communities of Falher, Donnelly, High Prairie, Joussard, Kinuso and Slave Lake. Approximately 550 full and part-time employees, including educational assistants, secretaries, librarians, janitors, maintenance personnel, bus drivers, mechanics, education specialists and Learning Support Centre administrators and personnel, directly supplement the endeavours of over 200 school-based teachers and administrators. Seven trustees elected by parents and taxpayers of the Division’s four subdivisions provide governance and overall direction.
