Job Details

The City of St. Albert is recruiting an individual to join our Economic Development department as an Economic Development Officer with a focus on Investment Attraction.

Reporting to the Manager, Investment Attraction & Growth, this position will be responsible for supporting department strategies, building and maintaining relationships with key customers and partners within the private and public sectors, promote and market St. Albert, conduct research and collect market data, ultimately attracting new investment, businesses, and development to St. Albert.

Responsibilities

  • Assisting with the development and execution of investment attraction initiatives and implementation of the City’s Investment Attraction Strategy.
  • Supporting the Investment Attraction & Growth branch as a representative, key contact, and liaison between the City of St. Albert and the private sector, as well as regional economic development-related organizations and government agencies.
  • Organize regular presentations, tours, and meetings with commercial real estate and land development industries, promoting St. Albert’s commercial and industrial offerings.
  • Assisting with and administer initiatives and events that support broader departmental goals.
  • Attend seminars, conferences and industry meetings to gain industry knowledge and building opportunities.
  • Collecting and reporting on industry data gaining insight into industry trends and maintaining an inventory of non-residential properties in St. Albert,
  • Collaborating with the Business Retention and Expansion branch to support overarching department objectives and corporate priorities.

The person we seek is passionate about building relationships with clients and partners, promoting St. Albert to target audiences, gathering market intel, and driving new investment, businesses, and development to our city.

Qualifications

  • A Bachelor’s Degree in a field related to economic development, such as business administration, investment attraction, land development, marketing, sales management, commercial real estate, or land use planning, coupled with a minimum of one (1) year of relevant experience in areas of economic development, sales, marketing, customer relations management, or commercial/industrial development and/or commercial real estate. Alternatively, a 2-year Diploma in a related discipline, paired with a minimum of three (3) years of related experience.
  • Certification(s) in economic development, land use planning, land development, real estate or project management would be considered an asset.
  • Membership(s) in Economic Development would be considered an asset.
  • Proficient in database management with additional expertise in strategic planning, project management, report writing, and municipal government.

Equivalent combinations of experience and education may be considered.

Hours of Work

  • We offer a compressed bi-weekly work schedule of 72 hours, Monday - Friday, 8:00 – 5:00, with a biweekly regular day off (RDO).
  • Benefit from flexible work hours by adjusting your start and end times by 30 or 60 minutes around our core hours of 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Compensation

  • The salary ranges from $83,549 - $102,830 per annum, including a comprehensive benefits package with a Flexible Spending Account and Pension Plan.

  • Optional - Candidates not meeting the full qualifications may be considered for a development opportunity at a lower classification and salary.

Why You Should Work With Us

  • Eligible to apply for a Hybrid Remote Work arrangement, with a minimum of 51% of work time spent onsite and the remainder worked remotely. Employees are eligible to participate in this program after 3 months of employment, subject to satisfactory performance.
  • You will receive a Flexible Spending Account limit at the beginning of each calendar year (permanent full time $350 and permanent part time $175).
  • Employees can purchase an annual Recreation Access Pass for $87 + tax, granting unlimited access to Servus Credit Union Place (excluding PLAYcare and registered programs), Fountain Park Recreation Centre, and Grosvenor Outdoor Pool.
