Cutting Operator:
The Cutting Operator is responsible for supplying cut and drilled pieces of fabrics to the production line in accordance with supplied patterns and product instructions and free of defects.

Summary of Duties:

  • Loads the required materials onto the cutting table using the proper lifting devices and assistance as required
  • Identifies fabric characteristic and if fabric is right side; this requires basic knowledge of different fabrics
  • Stages cut material pieces in supermarket and in appropriate product line
  • Verifies fabric usage before cutting, and ensures fabric is right side-up
  • Verifies marker positions and part numbers for the product against manufacturing/sales order
  • Visually inspections fabric to be cut for marker and fabric defects and follows prescribed process for determining whether material is defective or if it can be re-cut
  • Lays up fabric in accordance with markers ensuring correct number of layers and quantity to cut
  • Maintains KanBan by cutting daily to meet the production schedule and committed on time delivery of orders
  • Operates basic cutting equipment
  • Completes required documentation as outlined by quality and manufacturing procedures i.e. completes fabric tracking reports and records on fabric card the amount of fabric used and the date. Separates fabric waste by cutting up obsolete panels for the Ballistics Recycle and Panel Destruction Programs

Qualifications:

  • Minimum grade 10 and/or proven work experience
  • 13 months to 2 years of related work experience in either a cutting or sewing environment considered an asset
  • Good communication skills both orally and written
  • Must have flexibility to work various shifts
  • Attention to detail and a positive attitude are necessary
  • Must have basic math skills including fraction recognition using both metric and standard measurements
  • Good working computer skills; MS Office software – MS Word, Excel
  • Must possess good manual dexterity to be able to place patterns on top of layers of fabric and to cut fabric with precision
  • Teamwork skills in a modular work environment
  • Ability to operate various types of cutting equipment; manual cutters, upright saws, drills etc
