The Opportunity
Reporting directly to the Supervisor, Maker & Emerging Technology, this role is responsible for providing support to the Maker & Emerging Technologies team as they create, plan and deliver makerspace programs and camps, and engage community with innovative opportunities for learning, creation and discovery while supporting the strategic goals of CPL. The role will be exposed to a variety of creative and emerging technologies, including but not limited to laser cutters, Cricut’s, 3D printers and scanners, sewing and embroidery machines, a recording studio, photography equipment, design software (ex. Adobe, Canva, Cricut Design Space, Tinkercad), digitizing equipment, large format printer, and a direct-to-garment printer.
As the Assistant, Creative Technology & Digital Literacy Programs, you will perform the following duties, including but are not limited to:
- Assist in the planning, development, and facilitation of maker programs and camps, including those developed in partnership with community partners, and alongside CPL's Programs & Maker teams staff including CPL's Community Librarian.
- Assist customers in using the tools, equipment and software in the library’s makerspaces, including 3D printers, laser cutters, sewing and embroidery machines, Cricuts, recording and photography equipment, digitizing equipment, and a large format printer.
- Participate in community events throughout the summer and across Caledon to promote the library’s programs, collections/resources, services and makerspaces.
- Develop increased confidence in supporting training of library staff and the public on the use of creative and emerging technologies.
- Build positive relationships with library staff, customers and community partners by providing exemplary customer service.
The Ideal Candidate
We are seeking an enthusiastic student in high school, college, CEGEP or university who will be returning to school in Fall 2026.
The ideal candidate will display an unwavering appreciation of and commitment to excellence in public library service by demonstrating relevant key competencies as per the Caledon Public Library’s Core Competencies; excellent verbal and written communication skills, superior interpersonal skills including the ability to work effectively in a team environment and foster effective working relationships, demonstrated ability to work without direct supervision and display sound judgement, decision making and time management skills, etc.
This position offers a rate of pay of $21.18 per hour, based on a 35-hour work week.
The successful candidate will be required to work a flexible schedule, including evenings and weekends in the office (as required).
Satisfactory passing of a vulnerable sector check and proof of qualifications will be required of any successful candidate(s) for this position.
