Job Description:

Under the direction of a Manager and as part of the  interdisciplinary team, the Community Mental Health Nurse provides a complex range of screening, triage, assessment, treatment and case coordination services to a community mental health and addictions population The incumbent provides program consultation and co-ordination, evaluation of clinical interventions, supervision, preceptor students in formal clinical practicum, and provides professional and public education regarding mental health and addiction issues and resources. The incumbent will provide nursing leadership and clinical expertise in the development and maintenance of community mental health and addiction treatment programs, and ensure nursing practice standards are maintained.

Experience

  • 2 yrs. recent clinical experience w/ clients in mental health setting

Education

  • Bachelor of Psychiatric Nursing (BPN)
  • Graduate from school of general nursing with training in psychiatric nursing

Other Education and Training

  • Experience in a community mental health setting is desired

  • Exp. in mental health & addictions community outreach & crisis interventions

  • Able to work independently in a self motivated manner & respond under pressure
  • Knowledge and practical application of the Mental Health Services Act and Health Information Protection Act and other legislation
  • Knowledge of community resources
  • Ability to prepare reports in a clear, concise and timely manner.
  • knowledge and skills related to community psychiatric nursing practice
  • Ability to formulate evidence based intervention.  
  • Knowledge in various intervention strategies for individuals and groups
  • Work collaboratively w/ a multidisciplinary team & other agencies in the commnty
  • Excellent public relations skills
  • Basic computer skills including Microsoft Office programs (Word/Excel/Outlook)

  • Registered/eligible with College of Registered Psychiatric Nurses of SK - CRPNS

  • Scheduled hours of work may be reduced during the rotation stipulated when a statutory holiday is recognized during that period.
