About the role

The Opportunity JOB DESCRIPTION Make your mark while you grow your career! As the Construction Coordinator, you will manage the execution of projects within the Bitumen Production team at Albian Sands. You will develop your project management skills as you oversee projects ranging from $5 – $25 Million in value, and ensure that projects are planned, prioritized, and executed safely and incident free. You will be accountable to ensure that the safety, environmental, scope, cost and schedule goals are met.

In this role, the Construction Coordinator will collaborate with all internal and external stakeholders, including business unit managers, contractors, and vendors, to ensure that all projects are completed on time and within budget.

  • Job location: Fort McMurray, AB – Albian Oil Sands site*
  • Safety sensitive position: Yes

  • Shift schedule: 7 X 7, 12-hour shift (Tuesday to Monday)
  • Please note: During critical project phases such a construction and/or plant outages, extended field presence at Albian will be required days and nights

Key Accountabilities

  • Manage project budgets, and prepare accurate spending forecasts and cost estimates and participate in the identification and scoping stages of projects and act as a key member of constructability reviews

  • Review Construction Work Packages and provide feedback to the designers and engineers and liaise with Operations and Maintenance to prioritize projects for construction

  • Collaborate with Supply Management to prepare bid packages and review submissions

  • Manage Contractor relationships and construction work on site by:

  • Obtain and review estimates for fabrication and construction

  • Select qualified contractors and review contractor invoicing

  • Develop and maintain project schedules and execution plans

  • Oversee and audit work to ensure a safe and productive work site

  • Coordinate multiple contractors on various work fronts to ensure consistency

  • Align the execution timeline for projects with scheduled maintenance outages

  • Lead project kick-off meetings for both Canadian Natural employees and contractors

  • Participate and provide coordination, guidance and direction in the daily planning and scheduling of construction activities

  • Work closely with team members to ensure that construction resources (manpower, equipment, materials) are used effectively

  • Turnover completed projects to Operations and ensure that all deficiencies are documented and resolved in a timely manner

What You Bring To The Role

  • 15+ years of related industry experience including substantial experience in an operating facility
  • A high school diploma along with journeyman ticket is required
  • Familiarity with and understanding of:
  • Albian Oil Sands facilities
  • The current industry construction procedures and standards
  • Coordination or supervision of medium size to large scale projects (strong problem solving and decision making)
  • Strong planning and scheduling knowledge along with an understanding of collaborating with the engineering and operation teams
  • Proven ability to execute projects through the full project cycle
  • Self-starter, ability to manage multiple task several projects at one time
