About the role
Under the direction of the Supervisor or Manager, the Library Technician II – Sunday Team Lead is responsible to provide support for a portfolio of work which could include one of the following: overseeing cataloging, programming, community information, volunteer services, technology and makerhub, or circulation services. This position is responsible for a portion of a service in the library; programming, oversight and accountability for one area in the library. In addition, the Library Technician II role has some shared oversight of staff, - volunteers, program partners and oversight, makerhub, head cataloguer, scheduling.
In addition, the Sunday Team Lead supports the provision of services of the Newmarket Public Library during its open hours on Mondays. This role includes staff coordination and support customer relations, handling security and building demands on Sundays as per established protocols.
Job Requirements

Post-Secondary Library Technician diploma or a related field of study, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Demonstrated experience in a public Library environment with multi-service provision and/or a broad knowledge of a variety of library services offered.

Demonstrated experience, accuracy and knowledge of cash handling procedures.

Proficient in a computerized environment including Microsoft Office (Word, Excel and PowerPoint); Integrated Library Systems, internet use and general office equipment (i.e. microfilm reader/printer).

Experience in general office functions including photocopying, printing, ordering and accessing supplies, answering the phone and general correspondence.

Demonstrated experience providing direct customer service in person and via phone with ability to deal courteously and effectively with the public, staff, organizations and stakeholders.

Demonstrated time management skills with ability to prioritize demands, meet customer service standards and deadlines. Previous experience requiring a sound ability to multi-task.

Demonstrated ability to work as a team member as well as the ability to work independently and with minimum or no supervision to meet deadlines, perform multiple tasks and to respect confidentiality.

Demonstrated excellent written and verbal communication skills; attention to detail and accuracy is necessary.

Ability to keep up-to-date with current events and has a good general knowledge of library services.

Excellent interpersonal, organization, analytical skills, attend to detail and problem/complaint resolution skills.

Good understanding of cataloguing standards.

Availability to work a flexible work schedule including working evenings and Saturdays and Sundays as required.
