Opportunity

The Alpha Strategies team is part of AIMCo’s Public Equities department and manages a range of market neutral relative value and arbitrage strategies, leveraging both fundamental and quantitative analysis. The team is actively engaged in global capital markets and invests across equity and equity linked instruments.
This Associate, Public Equities role will strengthen the team and its strategies by supporting investment research, portfolio analytics, operational processes, and data and technology initiatives that underpin the investment platform.

Responsibilities Include:

  • Contribute to idea generation, investment research, and trade analysis
  • Support day to day portfolio management and operational needs of the Alpha Strategies platform
  • Conduct fundamental equity or credit research and due diligence
  • Build and maintain financial models, screening tools, and related datasets
  • Proactively develop, synthesize, and communicate research insights to the team
  • Collaborate with internal teams across AIMCo to achieve shared objectives

Our Ideal Candidate Qualifications:

  • 2-5 years of experience at an institutional or alternative investment manager (or equivalent)
  • Strong financial modelling skills and the ability to perform detailed fundamental analysis
  • Advanced technical and strong communication skills
  • Programming and data analysis skills, or prior trading experience, considered assets
  • Ability to perform and adapt in a collaborative, fast paced, dynamic investment setting
  • Undergraduate degree required; postgraduate degree considered an asset
  • Completion of, or progress toward, the CFA Charter or a related professional designation
  • Demonstrated commitment to AIMCo’s core values of excellence, transparency, humility, integrity, and collaboration

Collaboration and teamwork are fundamental to the success of a modern investment organization. A successful candidate will demonstrate the ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with team members when required.

High quality research, disciplined portfolio construction, and effective implementation are critical drivers of long-term performance. Success in this role will be measured by the relevance, rigor, and impact of research contributions, and by the candidate’s ability to help translate insights into well executed investment decisions.
