Join our St. Joseph’s Health Centre team as we work to put patients and families at the centre of everything we do, in the role of Rehabilitation Assistant on our 2M Orthopaedics team!

Seeking a Rehabilitation Assistant with excellent communication, interpersonal, and critical thinking skills who is comfortable working in a variety of acute inpatient units. This position will be primarily responsible for carrying out treatment to inpatients, as assigned by either the Occupational Therapist and/or Physiotherapist throughout the Surgical Program. Reporting to the Clinical Manager, this permanent part-time role will provide weekend clinical coverage in diverse inpatient care areas across the health centre.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • The primary role of the Rehabilitation Assistant is to implement therapeutic programs for patients as assigned and/or supervised by the Occupational Therapist and/or the Physical Therapist. This includes the management of patient-related equipment and therapeutic tools.
  • Works effectively as a member of an interprofessional team, collaborating with other disciplines to provide comprehensive patient care
  • Contributes to the academic mandate of the organization as an educator, resource or support for staff, students and members of the academic and professional community
  • Identifies and addresses educational needs for patients and their families
  • Demonstrates commitment to ongoing professional development in order to continue to provide optimal patient care
  • Is committed to, and participates in, ongoing quality improvement in the organization
  • Provides patient care in accordance with all professional and organizational standards

Qualifications:

  • Post-secondary diploma from a recognized Rehabilitation Assistant program (e.g. combination OTA/PTA Program) required.
  • Current BLS certification required or willing to complete within 3 months of hire.
  • Must have knowledge/experience with mobilizing and positioning patients.
  • Must have knowledge/experience of various mobility aids (high walker, Rollator etc).
  • Must have excellent working knowledge of the English Language, both verbal and written.
  • Must have strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Must be able to build and maintain good relationships with patients and families.
  • Must be able to provide support to a multi-disciplinary team.
  • Must be able to prioritize and organize duties, and work well independently.
  • Must be able to meet the physical requirements of bending, transferring, assisting and supporting patients.
  • Basic computer skills preferred.
  • Satisfactory attendance record.
