THE OPPORTUNITY

This position will assist with identified Department-wide projects and initiatives to enhance efficient and effective provision of Department services. The incumbent will provide support by assisting with bylaw and policy updates, Department communication and process documentation. This position reports to the Director of Planning and Development and receives day to day direction/oversight from the Planning and Development Coordinator.

This is a full-time, temporary position from May 4, 2026 to August 28, 2026. The hourly wage for this position is $23.62/hr.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Project Support
  • Assist with research to support Department-wide projects and initiatives.

  • Support and influence process-related changes throughout the Department.

  • Provide background research and supports Department level policies and bylaws eg. Land Use Bylaw update.

  • Research and perform in-depth, high-quality analysis for specified projects and initiatives.

  1. Department Communications
  • Assist with content development and updates of Department’s Website and other communications pieces.

  • Assist with supporting the Builder Communications Strategy.

  1. Process Improvement
  • Assist with process development and enhancement initiatives.

  • Assist with procedure documentation and template development.

  1. Other Duties
  • Understand and adhere to City policies, procedures and standards, whether written or implied, as amended from time to time.
  • Contribute to a positive safety culture by always acting in a safe manner and complying with City safety policies and procedures for staff and contractors.
  • Act as a steward of the City's Corporate Culture by following the “Values, We Live By”.
  • All employees shall act in a safe manner at all times and will report any unsafe conditions, procedures or acts for the benefit of the City. Continual adherence to the City Safety Policy is mandatory.
  • Employee are expected to stay current on WHMIS and other safety-related procedures.
  • Perform other job-related duties.

QUALIFICATIONS

Required Qualifications:

  • Must be enrolled in related degree program (Planning, Urban Geography, Business, Management, Local Government or other relevant program) with 2 years completed.

  • Basic knowledge of municipal government and/or planning and development.

  • Understanding of process development.

  • Good writing skills.

  • Good organizational skills and highly committed to meeting deadlines.

  • Ability to participate in, and contribute to, a productive and collaborative team environment.

  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite – Word, Excel, Powerpoint, Outlook.

Asset Qualifications:

  • Experience in online content development.

  • Related work experience.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT

Working Environment:

  • Monday to Friday
  • Hours of Work: 8:30am to 4:30pm
  • Hybrid Work Options
  • Overtime may be required
  • Working in an office environment
  • Exposure to noise levels that may exceed 85 decibels
