The role in a nutshell

In this role, you will be reporting to the North American Legacy Assets (NALA) Finance Manager and supported by a team of up to 5 buyers. You will be responsible for the operation of the procurement group for the North American Legacy Assets.

The Procurement Manager has an important gatekeeping role within the purchasing process and must lead with integrity to embed the compliance culture of the group, this includes always following best sourcing and purchasing practices for transparent and fair competition, strict adherence to know-your-counterparty standards and approvals via approved delegations of authority.

You will guide the development and implementation of an annual procurement plan, long range supplier-base development plans, procurement management strategies, coaching/leadership, cost reductions/leveraging and ensuring compliance with all Glencore sourcing and purchasing standards. As needed you will also take an active role in the procurement process for complex tenders or as required for urgent requests and vacation coverage.

More specifically, you will be expected to:

Assist buyers in complex terms and conditions negotiations and commercial items with suppliers.

Lead the procurement team participation and interactions in internal audit.

Provide coaching and leadership to procurement team.

Development and management of annual procurement plan for projects and operations to deliver efficient service to stakeholders.

Assign projects to buyers based on procurement plans and strategies within the plan.

Keep current with project group to ensure projects are tendered in a timely manner.

Preparing and presenting monthly procurement update to senior management.

Continuously improve purchasing strategies and processes.

Develop local suppliers and manage suppliers’ relationship in accordance with Glencore policies.

Do you have what it takes?

Minimum of 15 years’ experience in a similar role, involving leadership, complex contracting (industrial construction projects with a civil, structural, and/or mechanical scope) and/or operations type activities (such as category lead).

Bachelor’s degree in commerce/economics (or other relevant field) with a supply chain or related designation.

Previous supervision experience is an asset.

Excellent knowledge of sourcing and procurement processes.

Proficient with MS Office Suite (Excel, Word, and Outlook).

Knowledge of Coupa, SAP, Ellipse would be an asset

Advanced analytical and quantitative skills with a high degree of attention to detail

Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to effectively interact with all levels of management and personnel.

Organized, flexible and easily adaptable to changing conditions. Ability to work well in high pressure situations to meet deadlines.

Travel: A small amount of travel, including to remote locations, may be required. Flexibility to provide support to remote locations across several North American jurisdictions and time zones

Language: Advanced proficiency in English (verbal and written) is mandatory. Knowledge of French is preferred.

Location: The role will be located in either Toronto or Laval; however, we may also consider other Glencore office or site locations.
