Customer Service & Dispatch Support - Part-Time (Split Shift)
Location: Ajax, ON
Starting Wage: $23.00 - $25.00 per hour
Summary
As a key member of the First Student Ajax operations team, you will provide essential customer service and dispatch support related to bus routing, communication, and daily service delivery. You will help ensure smooth operations by maintaining positive relationships with guardians, schools, drivers, and community members.
This position requires strong communication skills, professionalism, and the ability to thrive in a fast‑paced environment.
This role is part-time with split shifts, and is expected to remain part-time permanently. No bus licence is required.
Work Schedule
This position supports dispatch during peak operational periods:
- Morning shift: 6:30 AM - 9:00 AM
- Afternoon shift: 2:30 PM - 5:00 PM
Major Responsibilities
Operational & Dispatch Support
- Act as back‑up to the Dispatcher, assisting with routing, scheduling, and real-time adjustments.
- Dispatch buses promptly and communicate time‑sensitive updates to drivers.
- Monitor routing status, delays, and operational issues.
- Respond to calls from guardians, schools, and customers with accurate, timely information.
- Communicate bus status updates, including delays, reroutes, or incidents.
- Address concerns and community feedback with professionalism and fairness.
- Support a positive customer service environment consistent with First Student's commitment to safety.
- Assist with arrival and departure activities in the bus yard to support smooth daily transitions.
- Collaborate with the operations team to ensure safe and efficient service delivery.
Required Skills & Experience
- High school diploma or equivalent (required).
- Strong verbal and written communication abilities.
- Self‑starter with strong judgment and problem‑solving skills.
- Effective time‑management and multitasking abilities.
- Comfortable working in a fast‑paced, dynamic environment.
- Proficient with computers; experience with Microsoft Word and Excel preferred.
- Basic numerical skills (10‑key experience an asset).
