Research Engineer / Developer Student (12-16 Month)
Our Research group is looking for motivated students interested in applying data science and software development to solve real-world challenges in the upstream oil and gas industry. You’ll work alongside experienced engineers, developers, and analysts on projects such as geospatial and geological modeling, production and supply forecasting, enhanced oil recovery schemes, and midstream analysis.
This internship is ideal for students who are passionate about energy, data, and technology—especially those eager to learn at the intersection of oil and gas engineering and data science.
Start Day: May 1, 2026
Primary Duties and Responsibilities
- Make a Difference: Contribute to kick ass development in our rapidly expanding data offerings.
- Apply Domain Knowledge: Use your academic background in engineering, geoscience, or data science to help design and improve data-driven workflows.
- Feature Engineering & Data Quality: Assist in building and maintaining high-quality, reliable datasets for analysis and modeling.
- Collaborate: Work closely with engineers, developers, and analysts to translate domain knowledge into actionable data features.
- Communicate: Help bridge the gap between technical and non-technical stakeholders through clear, effective communication.
- Adapt: Thrive in a rapidly growing and dynamic environment.
- Grow: Learn from experienced mentors and gain hands-on experience in real industry applications.
Minimum Skills & Qualifications
- Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Geoscience, Computer Science, or a related field.
- Located in or able to work from Calgary, AB .
- Familiarity with Python, MATLAB, or R (experience with GitHub is a plus).
- Basic understanding of SQL and relational databases (MySQL, PostgreSQL, or Oracle).
- Strong critical thinking and problem-solving
- Ability to work effectively in both team and independent settings.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills .
Preferred Skills & Qualifications
- Experience with Python libraries such as Pandas and NumPy .
- Exposure to NoSQL or document databases (e.g., MongoDB).
- Interest in data engineering principles and data pipeline design.
- Academic or project experience combining engineering and data analysis .
