The Lead Hand supports the Foreman in coordinating daily field operations for Hall Shoring & Foundations projects. This role provides direction to Operators and Labourers, helps maintain safe and efficient work areas, and contributes to achieving daily production goals. The Lead Hand assists with planning, communication, equipment coordination, hazard control, and crew mentorship while performing hands-on tasks as required. The position requires strong knowledge of foundation piling and drilling operations and the ability to support both safety and production expectations on-site.
Core Responsibilities:

Assist the Foreman with the daily coordination of drilling, piling, pumping, and rigging activities.
-
Support daily planning to help organize work areas, equipment, tools, and materials for efficient workflow.
-
Provide direction to Operators and Labourers and reinforce safe, efficient task execution.
-
Mentor workers in safe work practices, equipment awareness, rigging fundamentals, and task-specific techniques.
-
Assist with daily hazard assessments, toolbox meetings, and pre-task planning sessions.
-
Ensure work areas, tools, and equipment are maintained in clean and safe condition.
-
Inspect equipment, tools, and vehicles as assigned and communicate deficiencies to the Foreman.
-
Assist with identifying site hazards and implementing appropriate controls.
-
Monitor crew performance and provide feedback to support quality, productivity, and teamwork.
-
Coordinate movement of materials, hoses, rigging, and equipment to support drilling and piling operations.
-
Support rigging and hoisting activities by assisting with load securement and communication with crane and equipment operators.
-
Suspend any activity that presents an immediate risk to personnel, equipment, or the environment, and notify the Foreman or Superintendent immediately.

Communicate clearly with the Foreman regarding manpower, equipment needs, safety concerns, and production progress.

Represent Hall’s values through professionalism, accountability, and strong work ethic.

Perform equipment operation or labouring tasks when required to support production.
Technical Skills:
-
Knowledge of foundation piling, drilling, anchor installation, and concrete placement processes.
-
Ability to read and interpret pile layouts, drawings, and basic engineered details.
-
Understanding of ground stability, soil conditions, and safe equipment positioning.
-
Knowledge of rigging and hoisting practices, including sling selection, load securement, and signaling.
-
Ability to identify hazards involving overhead and underground utilities.
-
Familiarity with mobile equipment capabilities and limitations.
-
Understanding of site organization principles, material staging, and work sequencing.
-
Ability to complete basic equipment and tool inspections.
Interpersonal Skills:
-
Demonstrates leadership, initiative, and strong situational awareness.
-
Communicates clearly and respectfully with Foremen, Operators, and Labourers.
-
Supports a positive crew culture by encouraging teamwork, accountability, and safety.
-
Provides mentorship to less experienced workers to support skill development.
-
Adapts to changing priorities and responds effectively to site conditions.
Qualifications:
-
Years of experience: Minimum 2 to 4 years of field experience in drilling, piling, or foundation construction.
-
Education: High School or Equivalent.
-
Valid Class 5 license required.
-
Considered an asset:
- LSE (or equivalent supervisory training)
- Ground Disturbance Level 2
- First Aid
- Rigging
- Fall Protection
- MEWP

Physical requirements
- Must be capable of performing physically demanding tasks including climbing, lifting up to 50 lbs, working outdoors in varying weather conditions, and navigating uneven ground.

Willingness to work flexible hours, including overtime and weekends as necessary to meet project deadlines.
