Purpose of Job:

The Senior Project Technologist leads project teams and provides direction to ensure successful planning, execution, and completion of capital and renewal projects. The role supports the Manager, Construction and Engineering, by developing strategies, managing budgets and resources, and ensuring compliance with codes, standards, and Board policies. It serves as a key liaison with internal teams, contractors, and regulatory authorities to maintain communication and secure timely approvals. The position also supports continuous improvement, quality outcomes, and efficient use of resources across all projects.

Main Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Lead and supervise project teams by providing direction, guidance, and support to Project Technologists and cross-functional team members; foster collaboration, resolve conflicts, and ensure team engagement to achieve project goals.
  • Develop comprehensive project strategies by defining scope, objectives, timelines, budgets, and resource requirements; utilize project management methodologies and tools to create detailed schedules and milestones that ensure clarity and alignment across all stakeholders.
  • Manage resources and budgets by allocating personnel, equipment, and finances, monitoring usage, and adjusting to prevent delays or cost overruns.
  • Approve or reject change requests by assessing impacts on scope, budget, and timelines, consulting with stakeholders, and updating documentation.
  • Monitor and report project progress by tracking milestones, performance metrics, and deliverables; prepare and present regular status reports to stakeholders, identifying issues early and implementing corrective actions to keep projects on schedule.
  • Resolve resource conflicts and optimize allocation by prioritizing tasks, consulting with other project managers, and adjusting schedules to ensure critical activities are completed on time.
  • Mitigate risks by proactively identifying potential risks, conducting assessments, and implementing mitigation strategies; ensure all project compliance and adherence to relevant legislation, building codes, safety standards, and Board policies.
  • Communicate with stakeholders by maintaining open and transparent communication channels; provide timely updates, reports, and presentations to align expectations and secure project buy-in.
  • Ensure quality and successful project closure by implementing quality control measures, auditing deliverables, and conducting post-project evaluations and recommending process improvements for future projects.
  • Support the Manager, Construction and Engineering by representing the Board in capital project matters and liaising with liaising with provincial and municipal authorities and utility providers for approvals and compliance.
  • Resolve scope changes and prevent scope creep by implementing a formal change control process, assessing impacts, and securing stakeholder approval before incorporating changes.
  • Prepare and interpret conventional and computer-assisted (CAD) engineering designs, drawings, specifications, and tender documents to ensure compliance with Board standards and applicable regulations.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of applicable standards, acts, codes, and regulations to ensure full regulatory compliance in all areas of responsibility.
  • Support administrative tasks for capital and renewal projects, including reporting, tracking financial status, monitoring invoices, approving change orders, and responding to information requests.
  • Assist Manager, Construction and Engineering with preparing priority reports and assist in capital budget development; create financial plans and renewal strategies based on Ministry allocations.
  • Participate in emergency on-call rotations providing after-hours support. Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications**:**

  • Completed three (3) year advanced college diploma in Civil, Electrical, Mechanical, Architectural, or Environmental Engineering Technology
  • Minimum of four (4) years of experience in construction administration and/or project management.
  • Current OACETT C.E.T. Certification or ability to obtain certification upon hire.
  • Project Management Professional (PMP) and/or Professional Engineer (P. Eng) Certification would be considered an asset.
  • Valid driver’s license and access to a reliable vehicle.

Specialized Skills Required:

  • Advanced knowledge of engineering or architectural technology for effective design and construction oversight.
  • Proficiency in project management software to plan, track, and deliver projects efficiently.
  • Comprehensive understanding of building codes, safety regulations, and construction standards to ensure compliance and quality.
  • Strong leadership and team management abilities to guide and motivate project teams.
  • Expertise in strategic planning and resource allocation for optimal project execution.
  • Risk assessment and problem-solving skills to identify issues and implement effective solutions.
  • Excellent communication skills, including written, verbal, and presentation capabilities, for stakeholder engagement.
  • High attention to detail and commitment to quality assurance to maintain standards and deliver superior results.

Working Conditions:

  • Frequent travel, attention to detail, and ability to work under pressure to meet deadlines.
  • Moderate visual and keyboard tasks, and occasional interaction with challenging situations.
  • Moderate physical demands, including walking, bending, lifting over 5 kg, pushing, pulling, and climbing ladders or stairs.
  • Occasional exposure to noise, vibrations, dust, and temperature changes at project sites.
