Reporting to the Manager or Service Excellence in the General Manager's Office the Leader, Strategy and Performance will provide strategic business and performance leadership to the departmental business strategy team, including mentorship and oversight of strategic planning and implementation, co-creation of corporate infrastructure narratives and reporting, and continuous improvement initiatives across the department. You will be expected to foster an inclusive leadership approach that promotes equity, diversity, inclusion, and belonging, as well as psychological and physical safety. Primary duties include:

  • Provide strategic leadership and operational oversight for a team of departmental business strategists delivering consultative services to the department.
  • Recruit, develop, mentor and retain top talent that drives collaboration, innovation and progress.
  • Facilitate departmental strategy development and implementation including governance, risk management frameworks, performance metrics, reporting and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Provide recommendations on governance and organizational structure, service delivery model and operating model aspects.
  • Lead strategic support for business unit objective setting, performance metrics and continuous improvement to achieve council priorities while optimizing resource allocations.
  • Lead and develop the management and delivery of cross business unit projects and initiatives, including One Calgary business planning and budget.
  • Oversee and guide the development of departmental inputs and supporting information for corporate reporting to Executive Leadership Team, Committee and Council including Principle Corporate Risk, Performance, annual Budget Adjustments and the Biannual Infrastructure Insights Report.
  • Represent the department and division in corporate and interdepartmental initiatives and on advisory and best practice committees focusing on risk-based, data driven decision-making and recommendations.

Qualifications

  • A degree Business Administration, Management, Economics, or a related discipline with at least 8 years of experience in developing and implementing corporate strategy and initiatives, working with Senior Leadership and Management, and coordinating and contributing to corporate reporting
  • Equivalent combinations of experience and education may be considered.
  • A master's degree will be considered an asset.
  • Prior experience in direct supervisory experience is an asset.
  • Experience in business planning and building collaborative relationships in a large organization and/or government is an asset.
  • Success in this position requires an individual who is comfortable taking action in ambiguous settings, is self-aware, leads by example and is passionate about achieving shared outcomes.
  • Exceptional communication, facilitation, engagement and change management skills together with demonstrated business, political and financial acumen are essential.

Workstyle

  • This position may be eligible to work from home for at least part of the time as one of several flexible work options available to City employees. These arrangements depend on the operational requirements of the role, employee suitability, and are subject to change based on operational needs and corporate direction.

Days of Work: This position works a 5 day

work week earning 1 day off in a 3 week cycle.

Hours of work: Standard 35 hour work week
