Job Summary
The Clinical Nurse Educator works in collaboration with Managers, Directors, and various health disciplines to co-ordinate, lead and support the clinical and professional development of nurses and interdisciplinary team members. This position supports the staff and the organization through teaching and promotion of skills and knowledge needed in order to provide safe and quality patient care, and assists in creating a Hospital environment that fosters creativity, growth, critical thinking, professional judgment, and high practice standards. We are dedicated to delivering exceptional, compassionate care to mothers, newborns, and families, while empowering our healthcare teams with the knowledge, skills, and confidence to excel.
The Clinical Nurse Educator Will Participate In Hospital Wide Initiatives In Collaboration With The Interdisciplinary Team, Planning, Organizing And Evaluating Clinical Team Member Practice At Both The Individual And Unit Level In Accordance With
Stevenson Memorial Hospital (SMH)’s Mission, Vision, Values and strategic directions; Applicable provincial practice standards for regulated healthcare professionals and; The specific care standards as defined by SMH.
Qualifications And Experience
Baccalaureate Degree required Registered and in good standing with the College of Nurses (CNO) as a Registered Nurse Masters (in related field) preferred Course program in adult learning principles/educator certification or equivalent required Minimum 5 years acute care experience and obstetrical experience preferred NRP instructor certificate preferred Fetal Health Surveillance instructor preferred STABLE or ACORN preferred Current BCLS PALS instructor preferred or willingness to obtain upon hire ACLS/BLS preferred or willingness to obtain upon hire Proficient in cardiac monitoring and 12/15 lead interpretation required Coronary Care 1 and 2 courses preferred Meditech experience preferred Previous proven success in an Educator Role preferred Adult education certificate or training preferred Simulation training preferred LEAN training certification preferred Change Management education and experience preferred Demonstrated knowledge of relevant legislation and legal frameworks including, Public Hospitals Act, Personal Health Information Protection Act, Ontario Human Rights Code, Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act, Occupational Health & Safety Act, Workplace Safety Insurance Act, hospital operational policies and procedures.

Demonstrated exceptional critical thinking decision-making skills Demonstrates an understanding of and accountability for the nursing scope of practice in accordance with Regulated Health Professionals Act (1992) and Nursing Act (1996) in order to be able to effectively oversee the assurance of Safe Patient Care. Demonstrated effective teamwork skills with interdisciplinary and physician teams Ability to effectively work in a dynamic workplace setting Knowledge in Policy and Procedure development required Excellent understanding of adult learning principles Excellence in proficiency in critical appraisal of research literature and application to practice. Highly effective interpersonal and communication (verbal and written) skills, combined with excellent organizational skills, with demonstrated ability to achieve outcomes Willingness to assist with organizational initiatives as necessary Good understanding of Word, Excel and PowerPoint Willingness to respect diverse perspectives, including perspectives in conflict with one’s own. Demonstrates a commitment to enhancing one’s own awareness, knowledge, and skills related to equity, diversity, and inclusion. What You'll Do
Develop, implement, and evaluate educational programs for all nurses with a focus on obstetrics nurses, including orientation, skills refreshers, and advanced practice updates. Support orientation and onboarding of nurses and allied health professionals across the organization Support organizational wide initiatives across a variety of inpatient units Facilitate simulation-based training for high-risk scenarios such as postpartum hemorrhage, neonatal resuscitation, and preeclampsia management. Collaborate with clinical leaders to identify learning needs and translate the latest research into practical, bedside-ready protocols. Mentor and coach nursing staff, fostering critical thinking, clinical judgment, and compassionate care. Analyze patient safety incidents and conduct chart reviews to support system-level improvements and recommendations. Monitor and assess competency, ensuring compliance with professional standards, hospital policies, and regulatory requirements. Lead quality improvement and safety initiatives that enhance patient safety and care outcomes across the organization with a focus in the OB unit.
