IMMEDIATE INTERIM OPPORTUNITY
Interim SVP, Corporate Controller Duration: 6 - 12 months Location: Downtown, Toronto, ON
Our client is an iconic Canadian consumer goods manufacturer and retailer that requires an Interim SVP, Corporate Controller to provide leadership and coordination of the company’s accounting function during a transitional period. Key areas of oversight include external financial reporting, technical accounting under IFRS, month-end reporting, cost accounting, internal controls over financial reporting (ICFR) under Sarbanes-Oxley (SOX), master data management, and transactional retail finance.
Key Accountabilities may include: Manage the accounting operations, including the oversight of the month-end close process, and journal entries and month-end operating review for the CFO Lead technical accounting analysis under IFRS Prepare quarterly and annual external financial statements, MD&A, and press release Prepare quarterly Audit Committee materials Compile and analyze monthly statements, quarterly and annual reports Provide advice and guidance on all accounting matters including financial systems, record keeping, analysis, and reporting Generation of reports of performance against budgets and latest estimates Coordinate the year-end audit and preparation of audited financial statements and other third-party examination requirements related to finance Ensure effective internal controls over financial reporting are in place and provide leadership in the company’s compliance program Implementation and management of internal controls with respect to financial policies, processes and procedures ensuring compliance with Sarbanes-Oxley (SOX) and Issuers' Annual and Interim Filings (NI 52-109) Develop and lead initiatives to identify operating costs, variances and develop performance and variance analyses and work with the various departments to improve and control current processes which impact customer quality Assign and authorize electronic payments, cheques, purchase orders and invoices
Competencies and Requirements: University degree in Business/Accounting, with advanced degree CPA, Chartered Accountant (CA) designation strongly preferred 10+ years of professional accounting experience Advanced-level IFRS knowledge and public company experience preferred Manufacturing and cost accounting and/or retail and omnichannel experience desirable Extensive experience and knowledge of all aspects of corporate accounting and financial management Experience with SOX and Issuers' Annual and Interim Filings (NI 52-109) compliance reporting Thorough knowledge of all relevant Federal, Provincial and local requirements regarding financial records, pension, profit sharing is essential Experience overseeing audits performed by external audit firms Good project management skills and the ability to motivate teams to produce quality work within tight timeframes High level of critical and logical thinking, analysis, and/or reasoning to identify underlying principles, reasons, or facts
