Operator in Training, Vacuum Truck Services
About the role
GFL Environmental is seeking a motivated individual to join our team as an Operator in Training. This is a developmental role designed for individuals who are eager to learn, work hard, and build a long-term career in the industry. We offer comprehensive Class 3A or 1A license training to successful candidates who demonstrate commitment, reliability, and meet performance expectations during their probationary period.
As an Operator in Training, you will work alongside experienced Vacuum Truck Operators and be involved in providing services such as (but not limited to): hydro excavating, confined space entry, spill cleanup, line flushing, power washing, water hauling, and loading/hauling of various fluids and materials. You’ll gain hands-on experience in a safety-first, team-oriented environment while receiving mentorship and the opportunity to grow into a licensed operator role.
Key Responsibilities:
- Support the Vacuum Truck Services team with daily tasks and learn operation procedures
- Assist with physically demanding fieldwork in various industrial settings
- Maintain clear and accurate records to accompany work performed
- Professionally represent GFL and provide exceptional service to clients
- Participate in safety training and programs, including daily safety meetings, risk assessments, and job hazard assessments
- Complete equipment checks and learn pre-trip inspection procedures
- Demonstrate initiative and willingness to learn and take on increasing responsibility over time
Requirements:
- Valid Class 5 driver’s license with a clean driver’s abstract
- Willingness to obtain a Class 3A or 1A license through GFL’s training program upon successful probation
- Strong work ethic, reliability, and a team-oriented mindset
- Physically fit and able to perform hands-on work in all weather conditions
- Interest in pursuing a long-term career in vacuum truck operations or the industrial services field
- Prior industrial or labour experience is an asset, but not required
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Competencies:
- Excellent communication and customer service skills
- Strong safety-first attitude
- Ability to follow instructions and learn from experienced operators
- Mechanically inclined and comfortable working around heavy equipment
