THE ORGANIZATION
Friends of Simon Wiesenthal Center for Holocaust Studies (FSWC) is a non-profit human rights organization committed to countering racism and antisemitism and to promoting the principles of tolerance, social justice and Canadian democratic values through advocacy and education.
THE OPPORTUNITY
FSWC seeks an experienced Accountant at to join the finance department. Reporting to the Finance Manager, this full-time position is responsible for overseeing key accounting functions, including accounts receivable, donation processing, data entry, and the maintenance of financial records. The successful candidate will contribute to the smooth operation of FSWC by ensuring financial data accuracy and supporting both day-to-day transactions and broader financial controls.
WHAT'S IN IT FOR YOU?
- The salary range for this position is $65,000-70,000 annually (plus benefits) and will be based on experience.

- This position will work onsite, out of FSWC’s physical office location in Toronto, Canada Monday – Thursday, with ability to work remotely on Fridays.
YOU WILL:
- Manage Accounts Receivable and donations, including issuing invoices, posting payments, processing and depositing donations.
- Data entry, including inputting daily and monthly transactions into accounting software, and ensuring data accuracy and completeness.
- Prepare general ledger entries, and maintain the accuracy of the General Ledger
- Assist the preparation of monthly and annual government filings
- Conduct reconciliation of bank transactions, and perform internal audits reconciling items regularly, identifying and resolving discrepancies or errors and report to the Finance Manager.
- Assist in preparing basic financial and operational reports for month-end and financial reporting.
- Ensures compliance with all policies, procedures and regulations
- Communicate effectively and professionally with vendors, donors, and internal stakeholders regarding financial transactions.
- Required to be the backup for Accounts Payable, assist Accounts Payable when needed
- Undertake any additional related tasks as required within the department.
YOU ARE SOMEONE WITH:
- Experience with Quickbooks software.
- Experience with DonorPerfect is preferable.
- A strong eye for detail; ability to prioritize and manage time as needed.
- Solid communication skills and the ability to work as a team.
- Tech proficiency: Proficient in MS Office suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and comfortable with using office equipment.
- Confidentiality: Ability to handle sensitive information with discretion and maintain a high level of confidentiality.
- Adaptability: Flexibility to adapt to changing priorities and work effectively in a fast-paced environment.
WHAT YOU BRING:
- Minimum of 5+ years of previous accounting experience in bookkeeping, accounting or other similar financial role (preferably in a non-profit setting).
- Completion of post-secondary degree in Business, Finance, or Accounting
- Proven experience in an accounting support role, preferably within the non-profit sector.
- Extremely detail-oriented with strong organizational, communication and multitasking abilities.
- Self-starter that takes initiative and able to work with a high degree of independence utilizing tact and good judgement
- Ability to handle sensitive information with discretion and maintain a high level of confidentiality.
- Flexibility to adapt to changing procedures and priorities and work effectively in a fast-paced environment.
- Detail-oriented with strong organizational and multitasking abilities.
- Knowledge of the accounting cycle for a nonprofit organization (NPO).
- Proficiency in QuickBooks Online.
