Software Engineer 1**, Connectivity (Edge & CDN)**

We run a multi-CDN setup, manage authoritative DNS, and operate the load-balancing tier that handles all customer traffic. Our charter is reliability, performance, efficiency, and self-service—every improvement we ship at the edge translates directly into customer experience and business outcomes.

What You'll Do

As an L1 engineer on the team, you'll learn how a global edge platform works from the inside writing edge logic, instrumenting the request path, and shipping changes that show up in production performance quickly. You will partner with senior engineers on performance, reliability, and observability work, owning well-scoped pieces of those programs end to end.

  • Build and maintain edge logic: header rewrites, routing rules, trace propagation, and experimentation hooks.
  • Contribute to core initiatives: own scoped deliverables such as a single service, dashboard, or migration script.
  • Infrastructure-as-Code: write and review configurations for CDN and edge, participating in change reviews and rollouts behind feature flags.
  • Incident Response: investigate production incidents on the edge tier alongside senior engineers; write postmortems and ship the follow-ups.
  • Self-Service Tooling: build tools that let partner teams configure edge behavior without filing a ticket.
  • AI Integration: use AI coding assistants as a daily part of your workflow for drafting code, generating tests, and exploring unfamiliar codebases.

What You'll Need

  • Education/Experience: BS in Computer Science or equivalent practical experience; 0-2 years of professional software engineering experience including internships.
  • Technical Skills: Solid fundamentals in at least one mainstream language (TypeScript/JavaScript, Python, or Go preferred).
  • Web Fundamentals: Working understanding of HTTP, DNS, TLS, caching headers, and the request lifecycle.
  • Engineering Rigor: Comfort with Git, code review, and writing tests as a default.
  • Communication: Clear written communication with the ability to explain tradeoffs in a PR or short message.
  • Ownership: A sense of curiosity and ownership regarding performance metrics and system behavior.

AI Fluency (Required)

We expect every engineer on this team to be a fluent user of modern AI tooling. For an L1, that means:

  • Daily AI-assisted development: You actively use AI assistants for scaffolding, refactoring, and debugging.
  • Prompting as a skill: You can decompose tasks into prompts and critically review AI output rather than copy-pasting.
  • AI for operations: You are interested in applying LLMs to edge problems like log triage and anomaly summarization.
  • Healthy skepticism: You understand that AI code needs the same testing and security review as human-written code.
