About the role
Process Improvement Specialist (Technical & Hands-On)
Location: Richmond Hill, ON
Role Overview
We are looking for a practical, hands-on Process Improvement Specialist who excels at understanding how work is done today and transforming those workflows into organized, scalable, repeatable processes. This role suits someone who enjoys being on the floor, observing real operations, identifying gaps, and rebuilding processes from the ground up. You will focus on process mapping, workflow redesign, simplification, and preparing the operation for future growth. Experience with structured improvement methods is beneficial, but the core of this role is technical problem-solving and executing improvements directly with the team.
Key Responsibilities
- Process Mapping & Workflow Redesign
- Document current processes through direct observation and operator engagement.
- Map workflows, identify inconsistencies, and highlight areas for improvement.
- Rebuild processes to improve clarity, flow, and operational consistency.
- Streamlining & Organizing Operations
- Simplify complex or outdated processes to reduce errors and operator effort.
- Improve workstation layouts, tooling organization, and material flow.
- Establish structures and routines that support stable, predictable operations.
- Preparing the Organization for Growth
- Enhance processes so they can scale with increased volume, new products, or added shifts.
- Ensure workflows are structured, documented, and ready for onboarding new team members.
- Support engineering and production leads in aligning processes with future needs.
- Documentation & Standardization
- Develop clear SOPs, visual guides, and standardized work documents.
- Ensure practices are consistently followed across teams and shifts.
- Provide hands-on training and support during rollout of new processes.
- Practical Problem Solving
- Investigate recurring floor issues and identify root causes.
- Implement realistic corrective actions that enhance stability and repeatability.
- Monitor improvements and adjust as needed to ensure lasting adoption.
Qualifications Experience
- 2–5 years in a manufacturing, assembly, or production environment.
- Demonstrated experience improving processes directly on the floor.
Technical Capabilities
- Strong understanding of production workflows and equipment use.
- Ability to design or modify simple fixtures, tools, or layouts.
- Comfortable collecting and analyzing basic operational data.
- Experience with ERP systems is an asset (SAP, Spire, etc.).
Soft Skills
- Hands-on mindset — eager to get involved at the detailed, practical level.
- Strong communicator with the ability to work closely with operators and leads.
- Highly organized, detail-driven, and committed to following improvements through.
Nice to Have
- Exposure to structured improvement methodologies (Lean tools, continuous improvement concepts).
- Experience supporting small-scale automation or process digitization.
