Community & System Engaged Research Coordinator, Psychiatry
About the role
The Department of Psychiatry in the Cumming School of Medicine invites applications for a Community & System Engaged Research Coordinator. This Full-time Fixed Term position is for approximately 12 months (based on length of grant funding), with the possibility of extension.
This role will support activities of multiple Indigenous health projects, with a focus on network-building activities, community engagement, and research support.
Reporting to the Principal Investigator.
The position plays a strong role in the research and community engagement goals of the "Implementing and Tracking Indigenous Guidance for Psychedelic-Based Therapeutics (PBT).
Summary of Key Responsibilities (job functions include but are not limited to):
- Develops and implements research plans and procedures (in which overall goals are set by the PI and investigator teams)
- Achieves background research such as searches, critical appraisal and summary of literature
- Facilitates data collection with a focus on interviews and focus groups
- Observes and records results
- Organizes data, prepares data for analysis and carries out analysis procedures under the direction of the investigator team, using computer programs
- Prepares and refines results for presentation and publication (i.e., peer-reviewed articles, conference presentations, reports, etc.) in collaboration with the broader research teams
- Work with a high-level concentration, resourcefulness, and creativity, in performing highly complex and analytical functions
- Incorporate resourceful, innovative, and creative problem solving approaches
- Conduct literature review, surveys, data analysis, interpretation and synthesis for use in project outputs including scholarly publications
- Collect, transcribe, and store qualitative and quantitative data
- Collect, consolidate, cross-tabulate and format qualitative data (i.e., interviews, group discussions, field notes) from various sources to prepare draft analysis reports and manuscripts
Qualifications / Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree or higher, with critical research training, within the following disciplines: social sciences, health systems, public health, population health, or humanities
- Minimum 2 years of research experience in a relevant topic areas as described above, with knowledge of both quantitative and qualitative research methods, and knowledge/experience working with Indigenous communities in ethical ways in research settings
- Congruent training and/or Indigenous community experience facilitating critical knowledge and understanding of Indigenous realities impacting health and strong inter-cultural communication skills
- Experience working with Indigenous communities, particularly engagement with community members, leadership and/or Elders
- Experience with literature reviews and/or searching library databases for literature; managing reference lists in software such as RefWorks or Endnote is an asset
- Experience and knowledge of university research ethics procedures
- Intermediate to advanced skills in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint); Internet skills; Experience with qualitative analysis software (e.g. NVivo)
- High level of effective time management, personal initiative and teamwork required with the ability to thrive in a fast-paced team environment
- Must be open to learning and development, and be flexible and willing to accept new and emerging tasks
