JOB SUMMARY
As a 310T Truck and Coach Technician with Cornwall Transit you are responsible for performing a wide range of duties expected of a Truck and Coach Technician, including, but not limited to, the following: conducting diagnostic inspection of vehicles, performing general mechanical overhaul and repair work, and performing daily maintenance repairs.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
- Applicants must have a valid 310T Truck & Coach Technician license
- Minimum of 2 years of experience within a Municipal Fleet or similar truck and coach environment would be an asset
CERTIFICATIONS AND LICENCES
- Valid Ontario Certificate of Qualification as Truck and Coach Technician 310T
- Current Ontario Ozone Depletion Prevention (ODP) certificate card or ability to obtain.
- Valid Ontario unrestricted DZ class driver’s license (or provincial equivalent)
KNOWLEDGE
- Ability to read and understand heavy duty electrical (including multiplexing and ladder logic), airbrake and hydraulic schematics and systems
- Must be a critical thinker with the ability to analyze, understand and diagnose multiple interconnected vehicle systems
- Must have a strong working knowledge and understanding of the Ontario Highway Act (vehicle inspections) and NSC Standard 11.
- Ability to adapt and learn new technologies as the industry progresses to zero emission vehicles (Battery Electric Bus)
- Considerable knowledge of standard practices, safety issues, materials, tools, equipment and supplies to carry out maintenance operations
- Knowledge of manual and electronic diagnostic equipment
- Ability to use personal computers with a Fleet Management Information System
- Able to read and understand Safety Data Sheets
- Must abide by safe work practices of the trade, including working at heights and the lifting of heavy objects
- Experience with Webasto/Spheros auxiliary heaters would be an asset
- Experience with urban transit bus exhaust after treatment would be an asset
- Mobile HVAC experience would be an asset
COMPETENCIES, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
- Work independently with minimal direction, and collaboratively with peers and managers as part of a maintenance repair team
- Ability to read, understand and interpret wiring diagrams, service manuals, schematics, drawings, work orders and any other documents used in maintenance operations
- Skilled in the use of jacks, hoists and mobile lifting devices
- Skilled in the use of high-pressure gas and electric welding equipment (Mig. Arc. Bronze, steel, aluminum) to effectively repair as authorized under the technician license
- Possess analytical skills, be detail oriented and have good manual dexterity
- Able to communicate effectively, both written and oral, with management, manufacturers and suppliers for problem solving and suggest corrections to problems found on specialized vehicles and equipment
- Ability to provide training and explain instructions and guidelines to others effectively
- Able to efficiently use, operate and maintain tools, precision measuring instrument, state-of-the-art automotive diagnostic and test equipment to diagnose mechanical, electrical and hydraulic malfunctions
- Possess sound judgement
- Flexible, adaptable and able to accept constructive criticism
- Physically fit with stamina to perform the duties of the trade (which may include working in a standing position for long periods of time)
- Able to work in uncomfortable or confined positions on occasion
- Able to lift and carry heavy parts and equipment safely
- Able to tolerate exposure to moderate amounts of noise, dust, grit, oil/grease, fumes, solvents, paints, lacquers, hot/sharp metals and surface finishing products
- Provide own hand and air tools relating to the trade (SAE & Metric as required) according to provisions of the collective agreement
- Able to work a variety of scheduled shifts, including weekends, on-call and evening, as per the collective agreement
