What You Will Get To Do

The successful candidate will have a positive impact on our corporate culture by demonstrating the Town’s CARE core values (Collaborative, Accountable, Respectful, Engaged) through daily interactions with individuals at all levels of the organization, external contacts and elected officials. By effectively building positive rapport and relationships both internally and externally, the successful candidate will help us achieve our mission that together we deliver services that make a difference in our community.

Reporting to the Supervisor of Plans Examination, the Permit Coordinator is responsible for receiving, dating, accepting and refusing all building permit applications, including:

  • helping customers apply or inquire about obtaining a building permit and if they need to discuss further with Plans Examiner and/or Senior Plans Examiner
  • determining the type of permit, the fees, accepting or refusing the building permit applications (in person and/or electronic submission) on behalf of the Chief Building Official in accordance with Section 1.3 of the Ontario Building Code;
  • requesting from the building permit applicant to sign the incomplete building permit application;
  • issuing building permits;
  • coordinating the building permit and job copy drawings pick up;
  • inform the building permit applicant about the inspection processes, type of inspections and how to book the mandatory building inspections;
  • maintaining accurate records of all approved permits, and prepare documents for scanning;
  • responding to customer Inquiries;
  • responding to customers via phone, email and in-person;
  • educating the public on the permit application process;
  • coordinating document pick up;
  • liaising with Officials, Internal and External Agencies and Contractors; and
  • other duties as assigned

Who You Are

Our Planning and Development team is looking for a self-motivated, solutions-oriented team player who takes initiative and thrives in a team environment. You use your organizational skills and abilities to plan, initiate, organize and prioritize work, and to deal effectively with multiple projects/demands, conflicting priorities, pressures and deadlines.

You clearly convey your thoughts, both in writing and verbally. You listen attentively and ask questions for clarification and understanding. You build effective relationships with all people; up, down and sideways, inside and outside of the Corporation. Using sound judgment, you demonstrate tact, diplomacy and sound discretion when working with a broad range of co-workers and customers.

What You Bring To Our Team

As the successful applicant, you must possess:

  • a diploma in Public Administration, Public Services or Business Administration;
  • Minimum Provincial Qualifications (BCIN) from the Ministry of Municipal Affairs and Housing in: General Legal and House
  • familiarity with the AMANDA system and experience in paperless systems (Bluebeam); and
  • a minimum of three (3) years related experience, preferably in a municipal environment.

Salary Range/Hourly rate:

$30.26 - $37.84

Current shift schedule: Monday to Friday, 8:30 a.m. – 4:30 p.m., 35 hours per week. Hours of work may be subject to change, shifts may be scheduled between the hours of 6:00 a.m. and 9:00 p.m., Monday to Saturday.
