About the role
##About Steel
Steel is building open-source browser infrastructure for AI agents and apps. We make it easy for developers to ship AI products that interact with the web using our Sessions API.
With over 6,000 GitHub stars, dozens of paying customers, and millions of sessions served monthly, we grew our platform 50x in 2025 purely through word-of-mouth and our open-source community. Backed by world-class investors, we're building a small, highly motivated, talent-dense team that's shaping the future of how humans interact with the internet.

##The Role
We're looking for an operations generalist to work directly with the CEO on everything that keeps Steel running outside of product and engineering. You'll touch every part of the business - hiring, finance, legal, vendors, office, cloud infrastructure deals - and build the operational backbone of a company that's scaling fast. The ideal candidate can grow into a Chief of Staff or COO with Steel.
Sample projects include:
- Negotiate vendor contracts across cloud, networking, and various sub-processors
- Help spin up our deal desk and streamline enterprise deals
- Run end-to-end recruiting for multiple roles—source candidates, screen calls, manage the pipeline, ensuring a great experience for everyone involved
- Manage vendor and partner relationships across technology, legal, finance, and immigration
- Implement simple lightweight processes and tools like onboarding, expense workflows, and routine ops to accelerate the team without over-engineering
- Coordinate team ops for a hybrid team transitioning to onsite
- Plan and execute community events, team off-sites, and office logistics
##Requirements
We're looking for someone who:
- Has 2+ years of experience in a business function - operations, consulting, finance, or an early-stage startup where you wore every hat.
- Is analytical, organized, and detail-oriented
- Is eager to learn about a variety of different business functions and juggle many projects at once
- Is high-agency. You figure things out without a playbook and don't wait to be told what to do
- Is ambitious. You see this as a launchpad to CoS, COO, or starting something of your own
- Is excited about working in-person in our Toronto HQ
- Ex-founder experience or having been a "first ops hire" before is a plus, not a requirement.
##Applying
If there's a fit, we'll schedule a short intro call. After that, you can expect a work trial and an on-site at our Toronto office to present and meet the team.
