1.0 Temporary Child Development Counsellor - East Region
Under 90 days
Effective Immediately until the return of the employee
Location: East Region: Sundrudge, Burks Falls and Surrounding Communities including Nipissing and Emsdale
Reporting to the Mental Health Lead, Child Development Counsellors work exclusively with students in grades K – 8 to support the development of key social-emotional skills. They provide structured learning experiences that help students build awareness, strategies, and competencies to enhance well-being and foster positive relationships.
Support is provided primarily through classroom-based lessons and small group sessions, with individualized interventions provided as needed, tailored to the developmental needs of elementary-aged students.
Qualifications:

Three-year Child and Youth Worker/Care Diploma or equivalent.

One to two years of direct experience working with children and youth.

Demonstrated experience supporting students in a school setting.
Skills/Knowledge Required:
-
Experience working with children and youth who present with behavioural and/or social-emotional needs.

Skilled in delivering manualized, evidence-informed classroom and small group social-emotional programming.

Demonstrated capacity to design, implement, and monitor strategies and programs that support students’ social, emotional, and behavioural development, while also enhancing key skills such as time management and study habits to promote overall academic success.

Experience providing counselling to support well-being and learning readiness for students and their families.

Ability to collaborate effectively as part of a multi-disciplinary team and serve as a liaison between community agencies, families, school, and classroom educators to support student well-being.

Demonstrated ability to adapt to changing environments, priorities, and student needs while maintaining effective service delivery.

Demonstrated knowledge of and respect for diverse cultures, identities, and lived experiences, including Indigenous teachings, 2SLGBTQIA+ communities, students with disabilities, and those from various racial, ethnic, and cultural backgrounds.

Ability to integrate inclusive, identity-affirming practices into programming and support.

Valid Driver’s License and reliable vehicle
Salary: $36.22 per hour
