About the role

PURPOSE:

To provide holistic nursing care in accordance with the College of Nurses of Ontario, organizational and unit standards, as well as participate and collaborate with other health care providers in provision of patient care. Responsible for making clinical decisions and exercising judgment to ensure the best possible nursing care is provided within available resources.

DUTIES:

  • Participate and collaborate with other health care providers in the provision of patient care.

  • Effectively use the Standards of Nursing Practice and the nursing process to assess, plan, implement, and evaluate patient care.

  • Provide health teaching to patients and family.

  • Compliant with legislation, and organizational and departmental policies, standards, and procedures.

  • Maintain commitment to self-growth and professional development by remaining current in knowledge and application of best practice through the utilization of appropriate research and literature.

  • Demonstrate good interpersonal and conflict resolution skills.

  • Participate in ongoing quality improvement and risk management activities.

  • Maintain current knowledge of best practices and benchmarks for the delivery of services, appropriate research, literature, accreditation requirements, and implementing improvements/changes as appropriate.

  • Other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Certificate of competency in Ontario.

  • BCLS competency.

  • Competency in the application of the College of Nurses Standards.

  • Three years recent and related nursing experience in hemodialysis.

KNOWLEDGE & ABILITY:

  • Knowledge of patient care requirements and specialized equipment as appropriate to the clinical area.

  • Knowledge and understanding of the standards of practice of the College of Nurses of Ontario.

  • Critical thinking and problem solving skills.

  • Competency in nursing care appropriate to specific clinical area.

  • Knowledge and Skills specific to the position.

  • Ability to work effectively and efficiently as a team member in a fast paced environment in stressful situations.

  • Computer literacy in a Microsoft environment.

  • Ability to maintain successful working relationships with the interdisciplinary team to achieve positive patient outcomes.

  • Ability to organize time effectively to perform the duties of the position.

  • Ability to meet and interact with people in a pleasant, professional, responsible and reassuring manner.

  • Ability to read, write and communicate to perform the duties of the position.

  • Human relations skills including empathy, sensitivity, understanding of human and organizational behavior, motivational techniques and counseling skills (e.g. teaching patients).

  • Behaviour consistent with Hospital Mission, Values and Standards of Performance.

Sault Area Hospital (SAH) is a state-of-the-art facility that opened on March 6, 2011. SAH provides primary, secondary and select tertiary services to a total catchment population of approximately 115,000 residents in Sault Ste. Marie and the District of Algoma.
