The Opportunity

RVS invites applications for a, full-time (40 hrs/wk) Journeyperson Carpenter position at the Education Centrelocated in Airdrie, Alberta starting immediately. The successful candidate will require a valid Alberta Class 5 Motor Vehicle Operators License. The Journeyperson Carpenter shall abide by the "Alberta Occupational Health and Safety Act".

Responsibilities:

  • Maintains knowledge of all materials relating to the carpentry trade and seeks out information on new materials that may be appropriate for use in school buildings
  • Prepares reports, schedules surveys or recommendations as requested
  • Procures materials in a cost-effective manner
  • Provides input on new construction/renovation plans as requested
  • Safely operates hand, power, pneumatic and explosion-actuated tools, and equipment
  • Reads and utilizes blueprints, specifications and standards effectively
  • Produces accurate and readable sketches
  • Safely climbs ladders, scaffolds, operates lifts and handles
  • Erects scaffolding as required
  • Provides training for carpenter apprentices

Education/Experience:

  • Journeyman Carpenters certificate
  • Not less than 3 years’ journeyperson experience Previous experience with a school division or public sector employer is considered an asset

Knowledge**/Skills:**

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and web-based applications
  • Knowledge of window and door hardware installation and repair
  • Excellent time management skills
  • Ability to successfully work in a team environment as well as independently with minimal supervision
  • Proven ability to establish collaborative working relationships with internal and external clients
  • Knowledge of the Albert Building code
  • Able to read and interpret blueprints
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong critical thinking and attention to detail .

  • Valid Alberta Motor Vehicle License – Class 5 as travel will be required to various work sites on an ongoing basis
