About the role

The Research Centre in the Faculty of Social Work invites applications for a Research Coordinator. This Full-time Fixed Term position is for approximately 12 months (based on length of grant funding), with the possibility of extension.

The Research Coordinator will work with the Department of Psychiatry in the Cumming School of Medicine and will work on a national project involving a large multidisciplinary team of researchers, healthcare decision-makers, providers, and individuals with lived experience to develop Canadian practice guidelines for pediatric-to-adult transitions for eating disorders. The successful candidate for this position will also be involved in the coordination of other studies within the clinical research unit of a large eating disorder research program at the Calgary Eating Disorder Program (CEDP) and the Mathison Centre for Mental Health Research and Education. The overall aim of the clinical research unit is to evaluate and strengthen current evidence-based treatments and develop and test innovative, cutting-edge treatments for eating disorders. This position reports to the Principal Investigator.

The position will include liaising and working closely with leading researchers, subject-matter experts, community partners, healthcare providers, practitioners, individuals with lived experience, and caregivers and families within a large multidisciplinary research team. This position will also involve conducting qualitative research with youth and families in the clinical research unit. The Research Coordinator will support the ongoing research and administrative needs of the Principal Investigator.

This position is part of the AUPE bargaining unit. Working conditions involve varied hours each week, up to 35 hours/week, depending on the stage of project development, with flexibility required for occasional evenings and weekends.

Summary of Key Responsibilities (job functions include but are not limited to):

  • Support and coordinate various research functions within the project, including preparing research materials, recruiting and consenting participants, research analysis, report writing and assisting with other activities within the scope of the project.
  • Oversee the day-to-day operations of the research, including recruiting, obtaining informed consent, qualitative data collection, data entry, data analysis, ethics submissions, revisions, and annual approvals, and appropriate and timely follow-up for research studies.
  • Collaborate with the study investigators to perform and complete relevant parts of the study, including obtaining signatures, discussing emerging questions, review research results, etc.
  • Develop research documents including informed consent forms, source document worksheets, participant tracking, data collection materials (surveys, interview/focus group guides, etc.).
  • Document internal processes, interpret findings, and contribute to scientific reporting and manuscripts for publication.
  • Maintain research files with attention to version control and maintain research databases with timely data entry.
  • Assist in scheduling, facilitating, and maintaining records for ongoing research team meetings with all research partners.
  • Coordinate, schedule, and facilitate research visits according to study procedures and ethics compliance.

Qualifications / Requirements:

  • Master's degree in social sciences, psychology, or a related discipline (Bachelor's degree with sufficient experience will be considered).
  • Minimum 3 years of experience conducting research in social, behavioural, or clinical settings, preferably in research specific to youth populations.
  • Demonstrated experience in qualitative data collection (e.g., interviews, focus groups, co-design methods).
  • Experience in qualitative data analysis is required.
  • Demonstrated experience liaising and communicating with multidisciplinary teams including leading researchers, subject-matter experts, community partners, healthcare providers, practitioners, individuals with lived experience, and caregivers and families.
  • Experience in eating disorders is an asset.
  • Experience in hospital or healthcare settings is an asset.
  • Strong understanding of ethics guidelines for conducting research.
  • Experience writing manuscripts and scientific reports is required.
  • Strong organizational skills, good judgment, and concern for detail and accuracy is required.
  • Strong communication skills (written and verbal) is required.
  • Exceptional attention to detail especially when working with research data.
  • Able to work independently and with others as a part of a virtual and in-person team.
  • Able to receive direction, and provide support to other members of the team.
  • Able to manage deadlines and to contribute to team products on tight timelines.
  • Computer literacy and ease with learning new software programs, such as NVivo, SPSS, or other analytic software.
  • Familiarity with online meeting software, such as Zoom, is required.
