Reporting to the Senior Financial Controller, the Financial Analyst will play a key role within the Finance team by contributing to the production of reliable financial information, performance analysis, and the strengthening of internal controls.
In a changing environment, this role stands out for its versatility and ability to contribute across several areas: FP&A, accounting, projects, treasury, internal controls, and tax.
The Financial Analyst will also act as a technical expert for colleagues during the implementation of different system components by participating as a “super user.” The role is hybrid, with work performed both remotely and at the Montréal office.
Duties and responsibilities
1. Financial close and reconciliations
-
Participate in the monthly close process;
-
Prepare and review:
oJournal entries
oBalance sheet and income statement reconciliations
oOther reconciliations (intercompany, suppliers, payroll, etc.);
-
Ensure the quality and consistency of financial data in accordance with IFRS standards;
-
Prepare internal and statutory financial statements, including notes to the financial statements;
2. Financial analysis and FP&A
-
Participate in preparing budgets, forecasts, and reforecasts;
-
Analyze variances (actual vs. budget/forecast, monthly and annual) and explain fluctuations;
-
Produce performance analyses and key performance indicators (KPIs);
-
Contribute to management presentations;
-
Perform cost and profitability analyses;
-
Validate the reasonableness of expenses;
-
Support project and operations teams with budget tracking;
-
Contribute to improving operational financial controls;
3. Asset accounting, fixed assets, and CIP
-
Track capital expenditures (Capex) and CIP (construction in progress);
-
Validate accounting treatment (capex vs. opex);
-
Participate in commissioning and fixed asset management;
-
Support project cost and profitability analyses;
4. Treasury and cash flow
-
Participate in preparing cash flow forecasts;
-
Monitor project- and operations-related cash flows;
-
Support payment management and liquidity needs;
5. Internal controls, audit, and SOX
-
Execute and document internal controls (including SOX);
-
Participate in internal and external audits;
-
Ensure compliance with policies and procedures;
-
Identify and recommend control improvements;
6. Versatility and cross-functional collaboration
-
Contribute to various assignments based on team priorities;
-
Develop an overall understanding of financial processes;
-
Provide functional support across different areas (tax, systems & ICT support, internal controls);
-
Contribute to a culture of collaboration and knowledge sharing.
Required qualifications
-
University degree in accounting; CPA designation (asset);
-
Minimum of 3 to 5 years of relevant experience;
-
Bilingualism in French and English required; interactions with an English-speaking Gold Fields team will be necessary.
Technical competencies
-
Knowledge of IFRS standards;
-
Experience with integrated ERP software (ideally SAP S/4HANA);
-
Excellent command of financial control, close, and analysis processes;
-
Knowledge of fixed assets and CIP (construction in progress);
-
Experience with SAP (S/4HANA is a major asset);
-
Excellent command of Excel;
-
Experience in a SOX environment;
-
Experience in a project environment (asset).
